Good idea bud, however the mouth is closed anyway and detail would be lost.  I used this method to do veins on my suit and it works pretty well.

Well here is the sum of my efforts this afternoon..and yeah it was fun

I am off tomorrow and will get stuck into more layers...

Big thanks to Lee (Usurper) for taking the time to give me some advice.

Cheers

Sean

I noticed that a lot of detail on the crown and cheeks, wrinkles etc was getting lost.  I sprayed over some thinned Antelope Brown and this really brought the detail out.  Plan if time tomorrow before work to do a fine mist of white on the cheeks.  I have not decided about the crown area yet, whether to do a pattern of dots yet, may just leave it natural..may go quite minimal on the overall black dots vibe..meh..don't know..

Cheers

Thanks Brian..airbrushing is so much fun. I'm loving the new Badger Airbrush I got recently, it allows you to adjust the paintflow down to a wheeze and get the paint exactcly where you want it.I have definetly decided not to go down the black spots route and won't be Doing much more to the mask.

I was very dissapointed today when I dug out the mandables to attach and paint. They basicly looked like attaching a square box to a round peg..if that makes sense. I ended up ripping out the tooth from the latex mandible supplied and made new ones from milliput that once sanded hopefully will be seamless when attached.

Sean

Glad you're enjoying the airbrushing, I know what you mean about the mandibles, the ones on my first mask weren't too bad, I did end up casting my own top tusks and small teeth out of resin.
Keep at it, Derek

Loving Airbrushing Derek it is very satysfying and feel as happy as a pig in the preverbial when doing it. Yeah I was dissapointed at the quality of the mandibles and it would have looked totaly ridiculous had I just went with them.I had to re-do the milliput replacements as I must not have mixed the two compounds enough and were not curing.

Have just finished putting the base coat on suit, was very tedious particularly as I was worried about paintflow and had the brush wheezing out paint. It will need perhaps 2 more coats before I start applying colour.

Cheers

I know when I fire up the AB I get "in the zone" and tend to tune everything else out.  It's almost a type of therapy for me, along with sculpting.  I can get lost in that stuff for hours.  Glad things are working for you Sean, and can't wait to see more updated pics!

Brian

Here you go Brian...I got the mandibles painted today and put another coat of white on the suit.  The mandibles were a night mare to get to fit correctly as the surface they were attaching too was not flat.  In the end up I used some very small pieces of Millput too fill in the gap and make them blend.

I love it Sean.  Love the color, the blending, the shading... love the whole thing!  Thanks for the update!

Brian

Glad you like Brian, means a lot.  Well work is cancelled today, short notice so I will still get paid.  So will I do some painting or go out and have some family time.

Family time meethinks..might be able to squeeze in both however..lol

Cheers

I did go a little spot happy but meh..

I made a start on the Dread Rings (120 of the buggers) and this was my solution to paint them in bulk.  I knew the backer Rod would come in handy for something.

Here they are hanging in Utility room ready for weathering.

Getting excited not much more to do..

Cheers

Sean

Yes it can get pretty monotonous, I was also doing my friends dread rings at the same time, as Brian says, worth it in the end.

Thanks for the empathy guys. Well am really excited as tommorow will be the test fitting of the skin, excited and nervous at the same time incase the bugger doesen't fit. Have ordered more earth magnets to attach bio to the mask which should be here by Monday. Then it's finish the dread rings, attach dreads and attach rings and that's it...done and dusted.

Sean

Good luck with the test fitting today, I haven't noticed, (maybe I missed it) have you put a strong zip in this? Both the costumes I planned to use as a base for mine had either ties or a small weak zip. Also, be prepared for the suit sticking to the dummy, it will come off with patience though.
Done and dusted? not a chance, once you've started down this path, you'll always find something you want to change. :D
