Sulaco1967 W.i.p First Build Competed

The PAX base coat is a good idea.  As far as the Prosaide goes, I've never had it become "not tacky", but have heard if left to sit too long it will.  I've always ordered my Prosaide from FXSupply.com (http://www.fxsupply.com/prosthetics/prosthetic.html) and have never had a problem.  Not sure if they ship to you, but it may be something worth looking into.  Hope you get things sorted out Sean.

I've never used Prosaide, I've been using Aquafix from Mouldlife, so far I've not had any problems with it, I've done my whole costume, refurbished a friends costume with it and used it on some other stuff for Halloween as well.
I just put a thin coat on and allow it to go clear, then just apply thin layers of paint/ink.
One thing I have learned is the paint will darken slightly, so it always looks a bit too light at the start.
Have you thought of making up some PAX paint to cover up the base colour, I used this on my mates skins as they were so dark, it covered up the dark colour nicely.

Keep at it, took me a while to get it used to it.
Cheers Troggs for the info.  Have been looking into Aquafix and it seems very reasonably priced compared to Pros Aide.  Found someone who does next day delivery..tempted.  Will Maybe try the PAX paint..

Have had sucsess with the thumb Brian, had the airbrush turned right down for a light coat. After two coats it seems to be holding...Yay. I did check the link however it would prove expensive. I have found uk distributors however am seriously considering Troggs sugestion, using Aquafix instead.

cheers

Sean

My brother used some of my Aquafix for a false eye prosthetic for Halloween, no sealer was used though.

6 months later I found the eye with the Halloween stuff, still tacky even then. I've always bought it from Mouldlife, their tech guys are very helpful.

lol..was just going too Pm you..and many thanks for the advice..I have seen it slightly cheaper on site other than mouldlife..£28.00 for 500ml next day delivery...

cheers

Sean

Thanks Jeff, really enjoyed doing it..one of the most satisfying parts of the build so far..wish I had half your talent Though..inspiring and overwhelming at the same time..lol

Well I got the Aquafix today, paid a bit extra for next day delivery. Have just gave the fingers of a hand a light base coat and await in anticipation for them to dry and apply a second.

Cheers

Sean

Thanks Steve..can't wait too post pics..that will mean they are fnished lol..

Anyway I checked the fingers and there is no cracking when flexed...yay..

However the fingers feel not tacky now..Do you think that because I have reduced the paint flow that much on the airbrush that there is more air coming out and that is drying out the Aquafix if that makes sense?..

I am applying the Aquafix with a toothbrush..kind of scrubbing it on..maybe this is making it too thin?

Aye it's all a learning curve I suppose..

cheers

Sean

After the base coat (prosaide or whatever you're using is covered) it's not supposed to be tacky any more.  The inks will 'bind' to them selves from there on out.

Brian.

Have just washed my Mask in Soapy water...went from looking like this..

Was quite amazed at the difference..

Anyway I am going to leave the painting until I get the Isopropyl Alcohol through for thinning purposes, should be here on Tues/Wednesday hopefully.

Sean

Finally got the Isoproyl alcohol through today and made a start on the gloves.

Still lots to do on them.  The leather glove is actually the colour of the latex and has not been touched yet.

I started the base coat on the mask as well..

I am loving using the Isopropyl alcohol as by the time you do a light pass over the the piece, the beginning is dry and ready for another pass..

Cheers

Lookin good Sean!  That's the exact reason I use the isopropyl...it dries sooooo fast!  Now, time to "pretty that guy up" with some color.  I'm excited for you bud!

Brian

Looking good bud. AB'ing is a learning curve, every time you do it the better you become and you also learn new techniques and ways to make it work for example thinning them down with isopropyl.

Keep it up fella, starting to look grand. Time to make that guy one ugly mudda

Thanks Brian and Mark..Going up to Glasgow tommorow to pick up some Antelope Brown Fw inks before I go any further with the layers. Had to work today which was a bugger and my mind was constantly wandering thinking about colour schemes..lol..

Any suggestions for a good colour mix for the mouth area?...

Cheers

Sean

Since your base coat is white, first thing I would try is several light "mist" coats red.  I used red iron oxide mixed with a little white, but my base coat wasn't white like yours.  If you want veins, paint them in with a fine brush first (unless you're good at fine lines with the AB).  Make sure they're nice and dark, as they will get covered up a little by the red.  Keep adding red until you have the desired mouth color, then go back in the recesses and darken them up with more red.  You could also add a a drop or 2 of brown to the red to darken it up, and spray inside the wrinkles with that.  Remember the most important part...have fun!

Brian

Cheers Brian for that...am just back from Glasgow and got me some antelope brown, flesh tint and red inks..off to have some FUN...

Cheers
