The feet are turning out great. I can't wait to see them with the latex on and painted. Keep it up buddy!

Coming along nicely, I didn't realise how smooth this foam could be after working it, looking forward to seeing the feet detailed and latexed up

those are coming along great man! I almost went this way too since I need the extra heighth being a short beaner myself, however with the limited visibility I was afraid I'd take a nasty tumble or twist my already weak ankles bad, the expanding foam is a great way to go for us first-timers huh?

Just an idea before you get into the finer details on the feet.
Why not extend the foam downwards and out to hide the platform? Take a look at 'topknots' foot build and aim for a shape something like that.
You be suprised how much the public notice things. Assuming your planning on a hunt or two.
I had a little kid scream out" I can see your sock"
Most embarrassing. Lol.

Yeah it's great to use for a first attempt, however it is not for the perfectionist as it can be quiite hard to detail.

'I can see your sock'..lol.. aye nothing like kids to take the wind out of your sails..lol.

I had a look at topknots thread again...Yeah it would be fantastic to try that with mine, however the boots are a size 13 and I think they would end up far too long to get the foot coming from the bottom to the top at an angle..

Not the best at drawing...can you see what I mean.

I have started to put some detail on to the feet and have used this black cord I got from a craft shop yesterday to create the veins.

If you untwist the ends of the cord as in the photo below you can create branching veins. I coated the cords in pva and used spray adhesive to attach to the foam. I really like the look of them and am thinking of using them when i come to create the skin and hands.

Thanks to everyone for their painting tips. I went down the road of using pros-aid and liquitex paints. Not liking liquitex very much as it soes not seem to apply very well when brushing it on. I think when it comes to the mask I will be using Fw Inks as reccomended by Brian (wonko),

Have put on the base coat and am currently doing some skin patterns. Once the patterns are done I plan to put a coat of latex accross them before applying the next colour of skin tone. Can.t wait to start doing the leather work on the rest of the boot, painting is too much out my comfort zone.

Looking very nice.

I love scratch builds. While I give full kudos to the people who buy suits from the very skilled and talented makers here, anyone with a checkbook can buy a suit that someone else has made. Making one's own, from scratch, requires skill, creativity and imagination---things which very few people have. You definitely have them. (y)

Thanks for the kudos. I think building something from nothing is the best buzz you can get. When my pred is finished and am asked.. Where did you buy that I would rather say aye I built it..

Big fan of your vids by the way..looking forward to the new one

I sent you some sound bites for your new production.....

Good to see some updates on this bud. I agree...for me, building is a big part of the fun. Plus, since you put it together, you know how to fix things when it comes time. Keep posting!

Thanks Brian..painting all these dots and shapes is 'ripping ma knitting' as we say in Scotland. It isn't helping much that the liquitex paint smears on and an am having to go over each little piece again and again. Think everybody must go dot crazy at the painting stages.

Finally finished painting one of the feet.

Not entirely happy with the paint up and wished I had left a bit more white at the sides, went a bit too sponge crazy. I should finish the other foot tonight and then seal with liquitex gloss medium and varnish. Then on to the leatherwork which I am soooooo looking forward to.

There's nothing wrong with the paint up Sean, I think it looks fine. You did a good job on em' bud!

Brian

Yeah, have to agree with Brian, that is one awesome looking foot. I like the details you have added in there, keep up the good work

Cheers guys

It's amazing when you apply the liquitex varnish how the glossy shine comes through and brings out the colours.

Note to self though when airbrushing first layer of varnish do a quick pass. The colours on some bits started to run due to applying to much. Ho hum its all a learning curve

Hi, am still working away on feet and will post finished pics soon...

Here is the voice changing system I built and I used predmaniacs thread to construct it...

Untitled_zps64ffc7ce.jpg

The voice changer is pretty well available on the net, the mike in the middle is a tom tom sat nav handsfree mike and their is a powered speaker on the right.

If you follow pred maniacs link it is very simple, however I did have bother with the mike. I went through two computer chat headsets but found that when you split the wire they were like threads and almost impossible to attach. The speaker is powered by charging up and am not overly happy with the design however it was cheap and good to test the effectivness of the changer. The voice changer itself produces a fantastic sound and you can really get a realistic growl and roar and even the clicks if you can do them ( I can't im crap at it). I plan to dress the system up later when I get time to intigrate it into suit.

Yay..finally finished the feet....

It seems to have take forever to complete them, the worse part was working out how to get materials to bond to the PVC. I found out that by sanding it this gave a key to attach the leather etc. Once again thanks to Starbeast62 for skinning the back of his leather couch to use on this. The detail on the feet is mostly womens belts i found in local charity shops and I used antique upholstery pins for the rest. The spiked strip at the back is a collar i found at a local costume store and this is attached with velcro and hides the zip at the back. The straps at the side can be adjusted and this will allow my leg with the skin to fit securely inside once created.

I think they look very steampunk and would looove to get my hands on the steampunk bio. I think I will continue this theme on the rest of the armour.
