Stormtroopers, black and white and dirty

Hello fellow Therpers...so I reckon it's time for a major new project. What I plan to do is 3d print the whole Stormtrooper armour and then make all the parts into master moulds, then vacuum form; an old school white stormtrooper, a black Shadowtrooper and a 'dirty' Sandtrooper. Interesting? Obviously there's gonna be a lot of the usual modelling techniques getting all the parts good enough to copy, form and detail etc but also all the peripherals involved like the bodysuits, decals, weapons... it's bound to be a journey to remember!

So this is what I'm aiming for; images (1).jpg images.jpg images (2).jpg
Lovely aren't they! I have some volunteers roped in who are ready to wear them too

OK, so far I have finished printing the suit. based on Cad files from http://scifi3d.com and edited for printing. The chestplate is weirdly small though so I used mighty Fierfeks' pep file...cheers bro. Now some pix...

DSCN0324.JPG DSCN0325.JPG a lot of printing!

DSCN0332.JPG DSCN0333.JPG some finishing

Started dressing 'George' with the Stormtrooper outfit and got some more pulls off the Vac table

Mostly they're coming out perfect but the odd one...the Back had an inside skin when I 3d printed it and even though I glassed the inside the vacuum pressure crushed the outer shell. So more Bondo and onwards
It's working out well doing the 2 troopers coz the best pulls can go to the regular Stormtrooper and the not perfect ones will work for the Sandtrooper as part of the weathering effect

I had to 'vent' the gauntlets to get the detail by drilling holes through the mould. And started resin coating the inside of the shells before adding padding

Made the forms for all the fiddly bits...Belt, Knee band, rivet caps and Thermal detonator/O2 canister

Need to finish the Ab plate buttons

Also missed the kidney plate...doh!

But here's George pretty much done. All padded, glassed and ready for duty

So, on to 'Lucas'...the Sandtrooper...

Update...

So, in between other projects, I am just about managing to make some progress with this one too!

Have nearly finished the Sand Trooper. Still waiting for the Pauldron from RS PROPS and need to start printing the back pack

But I have finished the Shadow Trooper helmet (or Saddo Trooper as my girlfriend calls it!) :behave

Thought I'd better stick this here as well as my ShePO thread...been Chroming, and I couldn't resist doing this guy

DSCN0530.JPG DSCN0532.JPG

Not sure what to do with it now though...it was gonna be white, for my Sandtrooper :confused

It's quite an interesting effect to play with...

You can get a pretty good bronze effect by spraying the chrome black

Ok, some progress is made...

Got the Sandtrooper armour finished

IMAG0637.jpg IMAG0636.jpg

And weathered the helmet...don't u just love weathering; no need to handle with care or be paranoid about scratches/smears/scuffs

IMAG0634.jpg

And did a pleasant 1 day scratch build on the backpack

IMAG0633.jpg IMAG0630.jpg

Actually, the Sonix face is printed and then guitar knobs and watch parts added, but everything else is from my prop boxes. FYI there are very good CAD files for the backpack on-line, if anyone is looking to 3d print the parts

Quick update

Got some helmets painted up...

IMAG0639.jpg IMAG0641.jpg IMAG0642.jpg

Shadow, Storm and Tie, obviously :facepalm

I have a hilt I could use in this effect...

Is it a chrome spray praint? or did you actually get it chromed?

And then the black on top...washed, or sprayed? Do you mind giving some details?

Thanks!

Cheers guys...it's a home chrome water based system. Search hydrochrome/spectrachrome etc. U need to buy the chemicals, a lot of DI water It's a bit hit and miss but if u just wanna get a chrome base then it should be pretty easy. The black is a 2k car paint sprayed over a coupla passes depending how dark u want the bronze effect.

Should look wicked on a sword hilt...look forward to seeing the results!

Finally got the Pauldron from RS PROPS to finish the Sandtrooper...it's nice enough but not worth waiting 6 months for. Won't use them again
