"Sterling replicas" (pic heavy) T-Track molds

Sterling e-11 replicas are ready!

This is a project going back maybe a year, planning and wondering, you know all that pre-doing anything phase.
I'm building a small stormtrooper army's worth of costumes for use in fanfilms locally, and while the armor will come when it does I will need to arm them as well. There are a lot of excellent replicas and Sterlings out there, but multiples I cannot afford much better than one.
So I came up with a plan to make them, film-worthy ones more than actual movie-accurate.
TE once had a chopped and rebuilt Sterling, and I couldn't afford to buy it when the time came, so I made some poor man castings of certain parts. Most of them failed, but the tip and stock grip were somewhat salvageable.
I built a primary set of molds with pvc, clay, putty, and styrene pieces, the castings mentioned above and a real Sterling grip I got from Chingon. Yes....I cut it in half. (sorry!)

It had a trigger guard, didn't survive the process.:angry
Vac'd over the primaries, packed them, started refining:

All original builds. I'm not 100% happy with them yet, but it's all a WIP. So that's the counters, tracks, clips that are about 90% done at this time. The body is also coming along nicely:

I got impatient and HAD to take a pull, just to see, and it wasn't a disaster but showed where I had a lot of work to do, and because of it the work got done.

So..next is adding the dimples to the molds for the barrel holes, smooth the surface and finish the t-track forming mold. I have more pics of early steps should anyone want to see them.
Bonuses: these will weigh NOTHING, be easy to assemble and replace should they be ruined, and will take a fall that would kill any replica 100X their cost. Not to mention that they are not blaster replicas strictly but sterlings; not wild about fleabay but hopefully any auctions I post won't get yanked.:angel
I'm on the fence about making them all in black styrene or trying glossy ABS.
Any suggestions? They're welcome here, as these can end up as idealized as possible, not a sterling copy but what stormtrooper guns should have been to begin with; I'll leave perfect copies to better makers.

I know it shares a moniker with a famous sink knob many of us know, but I like it and am going with "Starlite blasters" if no one minds.

The chief armorer on whitearmor.net asked me to bring these to the local gatherings of troops, as they needed holster fillers and "kid safe" weapons for pictures, and I plan to have one done to carry around at Emerald City Comic Con this coming weekend. You might see it there, should you be going.
Starlites! The name you know :thumbsup

Re: Need E-11s, so I'm making some! (kinda pic heavy)

this will be great for events with little kids or big crowds. Also good for long troops or marches.

Re: Need E-11s, so I'm making some! (kinda pic heavy)

those look great, Jax!
i´m not that familiar with the cushman blasters but last pictures i saw didn´t look as sharp as Jax´s! great work! :thumbsup

as you asked for suggestions...
maybe don´t go with glossy black paint, try some matt finish!
after some light weathering effects that should look great!

the guys of http://sci-fire.com/ have a nice tutorial for metallizing on their website! scroll down for tutorials!

Thanks!
When considering weathering, the first thought I had was to form them in a dull gray material, possibly HDPE or something similar, paint them black and then weather with sandpaper. That way it wouldn't have that odd Hasbro pattern of random blotches.
I will stick with the flat black styrene for the time being, maybe a crinkle coat to finish with for that military look. Keep em coming!

Re: Need E-11s, so I'm making some! (pic heavy) T-track update

Latest on this: got most of the T-track molds poured , I'm going to make a single rack of molds and clean them up:

That broken styrene track next to the barrel tip mold was the master:lol The clear piece on top of it is the negative.

My first build on this project, more to correct but nothing drastic. Can't wait to add the barrel tip and t-tracks!

Re: Need E-11s, so I'm making some!(pic heavy) Prototype post 9!

Oh that looks great!!! (y)thumbsup:thumbsup I'm a big fan of anything vacuum formed and I've been thinking of doing a few of these for some time.

That looks great and I hope you keep us up dated on this. I can't wait to see your paint job.

(y)thumbsup:thumbsup again. Very nice work.

Did I mention I like Vacuum form stuff ?

MAN THAT IS AWESOME !!!!! I'm excited about this piece .

Your counter seems to be riding a bit high but other than that, it's all looking pretty spiffy.

True, I saw that it should be more off to one side, I need to work out the mounting rail.
Thanks:thumbsup

Re: Need E-11s, so I'm making some!(pic heavy) Prototype post 9!

Time for the next step:
pdrm0744.jpg

I've got the pilot holes drilled from the PVC Blaster template, need to dig out the bigger drill for the main divots.
But now I'm pondering whether or not to remove the forward sight from the mold. If people want an ESB or ROTJ blaster from this they can hack it better without a sight in place already, and use the resin parts available all over the net.
Any thoughts?

Hey, whatever happened with these? They're sick.

Sterling blasters complete!

Got caught up in Halloween party madness, they're priority #1 after Saturday:thumbsup
I can't wait to show one complete, I'm hoping to get a rhinestone edition in Kenny's hands :)

It's alive!!!!!

Here you see a complete piece with just the vac'd parts in the kit. I have some resin parts (scope, box) that I'm going to mock one up with as well. The T-tracks glued on nicely, and as they are light as air I don't expect them to fall off anytime soon.
It's been a fair amount of work, but I'm glad to have this under my belt.
