Sterling Archer - Archer - WIP

Thanks for the offer mate, not sure how I'd feel taking it off your hands so I'll give modding this gun etc a go and see how it turns out. If it's a massive failure I might take you up on it :p.

Looking forward to seeing the whole group, especially Pam. I did that for Halloween and it was a lot of fun. Make sure the two of you go out for pancakes and bring a thermos!

So my suit and tie clip arrived today so I did a quick mock suit up to see how it all fit. To quote Ace Venture, "Like a glove!". Apart from the pant legs needing hemming, which I will ask the little lady to do, the suit is perfect. Still not sure if I'm going to stick with the realistic approach like it currently is, or fabric paint it to go cartoony...Decisions, Decisions. The gun is just a place holder for now as I haven't had time to mod the toy one I found, but if the toy one doesn't go to plan this one should suffice for the interim :D. Also the white shirt is just an old one I have, I'm going to attempt to find a better one that isn't as see-through (not that you can really tell in the pic, but it kinda is in real life) as it's very annoying in certain lights as you can see skin through it. Oh, and the 'pocket handkerchief' thing is a folded up tissue...that will also be changed up lol.

I'd be inclined to go with the cartoony look if you can pull it off, to try and distance it further from James Bond, and also add a bit more of a unique, personal touch to it. Either way, you've already got the whole look together.:thumbsup

Thanks BlobVanDam. I'm actually really happy with how it's coming together so far, and I'm enjoying putting together a build that isn't A) rushed and stressful and B) mostly items that I just need to either buy as is, or buy and mod rather than make completely from scratch. Don't get me wrong, I love making things from scratch and knowing how much work it took etc to get it to the finished piece...but I've been on costuming overload for about a year now and this is a nice change up of pace :D.

So it's definitely been a while between drinks for this thread, but for a while there I lost my costuming motivation due to a number of factors. Decided today to start with something simple to try and get my mojo back, and so I began making the detachable suppressor for the toy gun that I'm using as a (fairly close considering it's mass produced and cost me about AUD$1) replica of Archer's Walther. The end cap of the gun, a nut and bolt and a table leg cap insert with the inner wall part removed, and a bunch of dremel work later, and I have the attachment system sorted. Along with a length of PVC pipe, once I've found my bloody Kwik Grip and glued it all together (I KNOW it's here somewhere!!) it will be ready for painting, and I think will be quite an addition to the gun :). Then I can start on the paintwork for the pistol itself!!

Silencer is finished and painted other than a clear coat which hopefully I'll chuck on after work today. The gun has been painted a base black and will be painted metallic silver soon, then I'll attempt to get a brushed metallic look. Then it's just a matter of putting it all back together and securing the orange end cap permanently for the silencer to screw into. Slowly coming together :).

So I finished up my Walther with detachable silencer tonight. It's not perfect, but it's passable, and considering it probably cost about $5AUD for parts, I can't complain. Also, when you consider this country's tight gun laws, it's probably the best idea. I also left both the end cap and trigger in the original orange so there can be absolutely no doubt it's a toy, just in case ;).

Some pics of the mostly completed costume. I plan on adding a few more props for the next Con outing which is in just under two weeks time. Still haven't got the NV Goggles finished yet, which I will at some point, plus we have like 20+ official breast cancer ribbons that we bought and will hand out when people recognise us :p

The two of us with a couple of friends.
