Trims ready to weld, then it gets some bondo to smooth out the lines and a new paint job. Then we can line it and put in the visor.We ran out of the manly tape and had to make do.

No different than wearing any other kind of helmet. SCA helmets weigh at least twice what this one does. Its actually pretty comfortable.

Got it primered and the black base coat down. Gonna get some colonial red when it dries.

Can you tell us the finished weight & thickness of the steel. I'm thinking that it must weigh about the same as a resin/fibre helmet?

This one is the prototype to work out the pattern and get all of the bugs figured out. The steel on the first was 18 gauge with 12 gauge at the nasal. Havent weighed it yet, but it feels slightly heavier than a motorcycle helmet. If you have ever worn a combat grade SCA helm, this will feel like a hat. For someone whos never worn a helm, Wear it around the house as often as you can, and your neck muscles will acclimate pretty fast.
