Starlord's Helmet. The Vision

I might not have been clear. I was asking what diameter the circle you're using for your lens is. But it sounds like you've got it figured out better than my idea, so drive on!

Ahh I see.

Geez, I think it's like 1.25 - 1.50 inches. Im probably going to have to sand it down about 1/8th of an inch because with the wires and LEDs attached (even with the notches I cut out) it's an extremely tight fit.

I found the camera, took some awesome pics which indicate that this process is 99% screen accurate. However, I cannot find the USB wire that goes to it, so I cant upload the darn pics! :facepalm

I used 6 LEDs per eye, but it looks like they used about 12. I wish I had ordered more but funds are kinda low at the moment and I think 6 LEDs is ok with me. It does not light up "as much" as the production pics, but the "glow" effect is the same.

So basically, in real life, they dont glow intensely, however in the pics, they look like copy of the prop pics...Well, if I had the guns finished, and the same lighting conditions. So, I'm happy.

As soon as I find the wire, I will upload everything I have talked about. :)

I can't wait to see pictures. I'm trying to figure out how I'll do the eyes as well (though I'm not even close to that point yet, since I don't even have the foam cut out for the helmet! All the pieces are traced, but I haven't finished cutting them out yet). So I'm very interested to see how other people are doing theirs!

So my computer was glitchy and evidently, it did not post what I had posted...hours ago.

Ok guys, update time!

I was pretty pleased with the eyes, but I wanted it to be more accurate. In the 2nd pic I posted, the eyes maintain their "red" color. I believe this was achieved with either Red Acrylic, or Red Stained Acrylic.

I tried staining my plastic. It worked pretty well but it looked as if I had cataracts! I could barely see. Very, and might I add another, VERY, disappointing.

Maybe I didnt wait long enough for the layers to dry? Meh, you can try it if you want to explore. I decided to order some red acrylic sheeting that is 12"x12"x1/8th" I should have ordered some other stuff too because the "start" shipping was $8~ Oh well...

All I have to do now, is wait for the plastic, and upload some pics for you guys!

I found the wire and I will upload them shortly, or in the morning... since it just turned 1am.

Just looking at those pictures, the eyes look like red reflectors for bicycles. They have a geometric pattern embedded to catch and reflect light.

I don't know how easy it would be to see through them, but perhaps a pair of red reflectors cut to size with an led strip around the edge might produce the desired look.

Do a quick google image search and see what i'm talking about.
Agreed! I bought some 1 1/4" bike reflectors, definitely cannot see through them. Wondering if small holes would work reflector.jpg

So, these pics are taken with my dad's phone... Because I still cant find the darn wire. Anyway, it will give you a small idea of what I did, and the visibility of the build. I will say though, that these pics do not show the mesh all that well. I guess it cant focus in on it that well?

I dont know why there is an extra thumbnail thing.

Anyway, the red splotchy stuff is the glass stain I tried to remove.

So, I got my Red Acrylic Sheet. It's 1/8th of an inch thick.

Light, regrettably, will not go through. :cry And with the mesh, it is almost impossible to see. The plastic will be perfect for non-light-up Cyclops Visors (X-Men). But not for this.

Im going to try Red Cellophane. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

You could try this filter book from Roscolux. http://www.edmundoptics.com/optics/optical-filters/color-dichroic-filters/filter-booklets/39418

They are super thin film that you can punch holes using something like this: http://www.eksuccessbrands.com/ekto...s.htm?type=&brand=EK+Tools&query=circle punch to cut out the appropriate diameter.

Another option is to get a optical filter that is clear but red. They have some cheaper options if you get a cast plastic http://www.edmundoptics.com/optics/...itive-subtractive-dichroic-color-filters/1734
