Stargate SG-Team "Garrison" Uniform

I'm trying to pull together the Blue SG-Team "Garrison" Uniform (the blue uniforms they wear around the base.)

I need to confirm the size of the two patches. I have the SG-1 teem patch, but when I bout it the place I got it from had two sizes, and they talked me in to the smaller size (3.5") But some of the sites I've seen, say that that patch should be 4", and the other patch (the SG project patch) should be 3.5".

Also, does anyone know for sure what brand of BDU's they wore. I'm going with Tru-spec, because they look pretty close to me, and because, (minus the patches.) I've managed to pull the costume, including boots, together for less then $25. :) But I would like to know for future reference what was really used for the show.

I'm not sure about the patch sizes although 3.5 for the SGC patch sounds about right to me, 4" sounds a little too large. I'd go sign up at SciFiHero.net for a more definitive answer, we're a very Stargate centric group with probably the most knowledge about Stargate costuming around.

As for brand of BDUs, I'm not too sure about the garrison uniform but the pants used for the offworld uiform were custom made by the costuming dept. But I think they've used Tru-Spec on some of the costumes before but it really doesn't matter much since all BDU are pretty much the same; all manufacturers follow pretty much the same pattern. The only real difference would lie in the exact shade of the different colors but even within a manufacturer the color of the dyes will vary from lot to lot. Besides, no one is going to look at the labels on your BDUs to see if you're wearing 'canon' BDUs or not, as long you're wearing the correct style of BDUs with the right patches you'll be good to go with even the most devout canon Nazi.

Well, I scored a Tru-spec 2 pocket BDU shirt with epaulets, in navy blue, for $15. shipped, on ebay, yesterday. Then was lucky enough to find Tru-spec navy blue, army style, cargo pants, in my size, at the thrift store for $3.10 today. I also found the boots, in my size at a different thrift store today for $4. Pretty lucky 24 hours. :) (especially, since I'm 6' 3" and a little over 200 pound, with size 12 feet, so it's not easy to find stuff in my size just for regular close. )

The shirt hasn't got here yet, so the pants, and shirt may not be a perfect match, since they probably came from different batches, of dye, but if there close I'll be happy. The navy blue looks a little dark to me. I may try putting it through the wash a few time, or I may just leave it alone.

I'd put it through the wash a few times just so they don't look brand new, the costume looks better with a nice slightly used look.

Well, I didn't get to wear it. The BDU pants and shirt I got, were the same brand, and "color" but they came from to different dye batches, so one was very blue, and the other was close to the same color, but with a very slight purple hew. (not really enough to mention)

Anyway's, I really wanted to weather them up, so I put them through the wash a few times.

Well washing them, did fade them a bit (not as much as I would have like, but a bit) The only problem is, I don't do a lot of laundry, and I didn't notice that they had a rather high percentage of cotton in them. They shrank, A LOT. :(

They shrank so much there was no way I could have worn them last year. However, I did have a lot of weight to loose, and I am well on my way to a thinner me. So, it is my hope, that when I get down to a more appropriate size, they might fight me. (though the shirt, is looking a bit short on me right now, and that isn't lickly to change too much, no mater how much I loose.) If the BDUs don't fit then, well I'll just have to sell them to a smaller person, and start over again, with a much larger size, that can afford to be shrunk down when washed.

Does anyone have a sours for the velcro that goes under the patches.

I'm doing the blue uniform and i need 4" and 3.5" round pieces of velcro in navy blue. I know there used to be a site to get it from, but that site is down now, and I can't fid a sours.

I though about getting some white 2" velcro at the store, and just dyeing it blue, and cutting it out. (You know, instead of being one whole circle of of velcro on each patch, I would have 2 half circles) But I really don't want to go that rout since it's not accurate.

I would even settle for a place to get 4 inch or larger square velcro (that I could cut the circles out of), in either navy blue, or white (that I could dye blue) Though I would prefer to just have some pre-cut, pre colored, velcro circles, in 3.5" and 4" sizes.
