Well, seems as though I have this on another couple forums I might aswell try to keep a thread here.

Well I have finally gotten my first mannequin and its going to be used for the Jaffa. I am still waiting and gathering parts but here it is so far. I have had difficulty getting the helmet on due to the size and weight of it. I will need to foam the inside and put in a bike helmet inside to allow it to fit on the mannequin without tipping forward and damaging the collar which is only foam rubber. Also need to fit LED's and cut away at the bottom of the mask to allow it to fit somewhat easier. Alot of work to be done but hopefully it comes off nicely.

Any suggestions for attaching the helmet are welcome :)

Here is the current progress. Oh and yes... I will get him pants eventually! :p At least the loin cloth is there:ninja

Well I have finally gotten around to getting started on the helmet. Due to alot of annoyance and hassle I have left out the LED's, I am cursed with 20 of them blowing, half being dimmer and then 5 different batteries overheating and melting the casings.

With use of soft upholstry foam, harder foam and a bicycle helmet which was put into a shaped hole in the foam I have managed to get the head wearable and sturdy. The next step is figuring out the final mods such as cutting and final padding on the inside to allow it to sit without damaging the neck armor. I will leave the head on overnight and take pics of the inside of the helm tomorrow for those interested.

The chainmail is a slow process but the 'loin cloth' mail is attached and the shirt (well section :p) is on the shoulder just to show the pattern.

Real chain mail? Wussy! (best Stacy Keach voice) Your suposed to learn to knit and get a few knitting needle impalement scars!

Looking good so far.

I'd check ebay, you usually can find premade chainmail shirts in the 70-100 dollar range... By the time you modified/shortened one of those I bet you'd have enough left over to do the skirt flap too.

You ever collect all the armor piece or still looking for a few things?

Cheers lads..the helmet is great but its alot bigger than the screen used ones and wider which leads to problems when adding it to screen used collars. Need to cut curves into the helm later today.

Do scars from cutting foam count :p I will eventually get the faux maille aswell.

I was looking at a few cheaper maille shirts but there were a few problems. The ring size was not correct or dense enough to get a similar pattern , the sleeves were not long enough and the type of steel used was not the right steel for the colour (in this case I went with galvanized steel). I will have to add pants so the skirt flap can be seen. I will take some pics of it later but its a very fine maille material which was supposedly the same material they used in the series.

I am still waiting for the leg armor, belt and another front plate. The gauntlets are the only ones which will be not screen used but will be a bit of a wait. That being said..im always open to more stargate and jaffa props:)

i suggest rather than making the 'bike helmet" for the helmet... which probably still will not provide support...is take a hacksaw to the mannequin. Cut off the hair. You'll see that the head and torso are hollow. Stick and secure a long pvc pipe into the torso. Then wrap the entire pvc pipe that's sticking out of the mannequins brains with bubble wrap. Then you'll be able to place the helmet on the pvc pipe without having to worry about enough support.

Thanks ave4uevoli for the idea. Another chap had a similar idea but to use one on either side as a support for either side of the head but with a little bit of cutting into the helmet I have managed the following. :)

Here is the inside of the helm. It fits very snug on myself and the mannequin without fear of falling and due to the position of the helm in the forward section of the helm it helps keep the 'tail' to the rear to stop any fall forward.

I was determined to get it to sit right on the neck piece so to prevent damage i had to make cuts on either side and fit some black rubber skirting (such as the type on car doors) around the end of the 'tail' to avoid it damaging the collar. The crude white outline shows the sections I cut out.

Heres a quick pic of how it sits on the collar now. A tight fit without damaging the collar :)

Quick pic of the loin cloth

Wow!! I have been wanting to see someone have a go at Jaffa Armour for years!!
Since I saw the First Movie in fact Hehe...lol

One day I want to be able to make a original-designed female Jaffa Armour...but that day is a fair ways away yet...Hehe

Great Work!! :D

SS

Cheers SS,

Good to see there will be some female jaffa out there spreading the word :p

I am still waiting to hear back around the other armor pieces at the moment, a bit disillusioned but sure I will continue to wait and hope things come through. Oh and he has pants now :lol Just waiting to finish the gold/silver detailing on the helm and for the same type of jaffa knife used in a few eps to arrive then i will finish the chain maille (hopefully..oh why didnt i buy it made..grr) once that is done I will update the pics.

A bit of an update. Far from finished though. Still need to get the leather type material that goes over the maille and forms a 'skirt' of sorts. Need to make a sheath for the dagger and colour the handle amber to make it screen accurate and one more breast plate aswell.

Screen used pieces:
Collar, Breast Plate, Gauntlets, Shin Armor, Belt (marked as used as part of the Horus Guard armor)
Replica:
Maille, Staff Weapon, Zat and Helmet.

The maille is a cheap galvanised shirt from Ebay. I realised that I did'nt have enough rings for a shirt so have decided to make maille 'shorts' with what I have then use the left over to make maille arm sleeves with the proper rings. The problem with the Ebay shirt is the color (but i drybrushed with GW Boltgun metal as you can see with the brushed patch) and the ring size as below. Its just a temp shirt.

Same type of knife used by the Jaffa throughout the series, the difference being the handle is an amber colour and has a proper sheath (on the to do list)

Same 'loin cloth' material as screen used and the belt was wayyyy to big so alot of velcro was used to make it fit.

and finally pictures...still far from done and not happy with how i repaired the gauntlets and how the helmet sits as it damages the neck piece easily but....
