hi all

not sure if this old news on here, but has anyone noticed in the original trilogy, the use of blanks being fired from the guns ?
especially in close up shots ?

when Han shoots at Vader in ESB for example ?

Yep, some were real Sterling SMGs whereas others, such as the ESB stunt blaster, are just resin casts. If I remember correctly the hero real SMG was used to add a flash before the CG effects were implemented.

The effects weren't CG. I believe that the blaster bolts and light saber beams were hand painted and composited into the shots.

If you watch ANH frame-by-frame, you can usually see Carrie Fisher close her eyes whenever she fires the Sterlink SMG, anticipating the kick and muzzle-flash that would occur whenevr she fired it! :lol

Oh, and whilst you're analysing the movie frame-by-frame you can often see the spent cartridge cases being ejected from the live-fire Sterlings!

Gotta love ANH in HD :)

Cheers,
John
