Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

His gloves are smoking when he catches the blaster. Being that this is a separate shot from the blocking shot with the squibs I would say the intended effect is that he blocked the bolts with his hands.

Possible spoiler - more likely just crazy cool conspiracy-type stuff that fun to watch even if the chances of it happening are slim to none...

I still say it's this Gallius Rax dude. :)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

I'm not sure which video is worse. The Windu is Snoke thing was fun, I don't think anyone took it that serious... I like the idea that it was someone already in the Star Wars universe and just not some random they threw together (lazy!).

The debunk video from Jenny Nichols is just ridiculous, even more than that idea that Mace WIndu is Snoke. It's a rambling eight minutes and the only bit that seems rational is her ridiculing of Maul still being alive.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

I agree it would be cool to have Snoke be an established SW film or even animation characters but the efforts to frame Rax as a possible Snoke just seem too numerous and intentional. He's from Jakku, he has the Force in some way, he was Palpatines secret project, he I sent back to Jakku to guard some very important artifact on Jakku that may explain his power, he eventually is de facto leader of what would become the first order, he's sneaky and manipulative, he's being featured in these novels, he's pale... ;)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (Pre-release)

If snore is connected to someone, I hope they're very minor.

The fact is, the mysteries are frustrating. They are bound to dissapoint a lot of fans

Yeah, in general this wasn't well orechestrated. I don't think they ever intended him to be a known quantity but JJ loves a mystery so he and Kasdan left it open ended. Perhaps they knew it might be explored in more depth in the books, which is what I think is the case, and felt letting fans speculate would be fun. But it has become such a huge question, just like Rey's parentage, and now they that problem of under delivering on an expectation they created.

Totally. We don't need this to be battlestar galactica (which had incredibly unsatisfying mystery resolves) or the sixth sense. This just has to be a great adventure. All we needed was some well acted monologue from Rey about her parents being killed or sold to slavers or something. Maz could have said, "It's amazing what you can get from the black market if you know the right people" when asked about Lukes' lightsaber

Imagine if they showed us what was in the briefcase at the end of pulp fiction? That mystery worked because they didn't have to let us in on it. Star wars is a different beast. We'll have to find out about Rey's parents and we'll have to find out about Snoke.

Frankly the only "mystery box" that ever had satisfying contents contained Gwynith Paltrow's head.

Yeah, I know Kasdan is a fan of cutting out any ancillary exposition he feels is immaterial to the story and I think Snoke and Rey's backstory just didn't need to be expanded upon in TFA. But now they are stuck providing an answer to a question they weren't concerned about and risk disappointing people who have built it up so much.

It's weird. She clearly knows what happened to her parents. But she's kinda half-talking about it. More to keep us in suspense than anything.

Which is a type of storytelling that I can't stand.

It's like the finale of last seasons' walking dead. Negan is bashing someones' head in. He knows who it is. Everyone there know's who it is. They just aren't showing us who it is. It's like a self important mystery.

Yes everyone is hung up on JJ's 'Mystery Box',.....but the unanswered questions in TFA remind me of the same writer's (Kasdan) mysteries in ESB.....Yoda's "There is another",....Is Vader really Luke's Father or is he lying?,....Will Han return?

It all needs to be explained right away these days,....I had to wait 3 years

The other thing is the Snoke thing,....complaints are that he has to have a back story,....or be filled in by a book or cartoon,.....questions like "where was he during the Palpatine days" etc?,.....Where was Darth Tyranus during TPM,...where was Grevious during TPM & AOTC,.....it wasn't explained in the films,.....was it explained in a book or a cartoon?

J
