Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

ROTJ ended with the rebels winning a battle, that's all. All the perceived notions of "happily ever after", and fairy tails don't exist.

Disagree strongly.

A princess in peril
An old wizard
A naive farm boy
A pirate
An evil dark lord

Yeah there is all the Joseph Campbell stuff too and SW can be considered hybrid I'm sure.
It's not "sniveling" that our heroes of childhood got crappy futures and in my opininon behaved
utterly out of character in some cases. JJ needed to create drama so he trashed the OT characters lives to do so.

Harrison Ford says Star Wars is a fairy tale

Also clearly Lucas intent with the dreaded special editions was to show that that celebration of the war's end was spread throughout the galaxy and very quickly.
That was an end of WWII celebration. Not a won the big battle medals ceremony like the end of ANH.
Lucas himself said something later about how he "had nothing" after the OT.

Damn. Another nitpick.

Did they have R2 standing around, just covered with a blanket, since Luke disappeared? Right there in the middle of the Rebel... err Resistance command center? Without knowing why he went into shutdown and/or that he has vital information stored in his trusty old databanks? It´s a bit similar to what they did with the Falcon, almost too similar to have it both in the movie.

It was R2's mission to wait until Lukes daughter turned up & return her to him

......um.....me.....I sez it

Just wait & see,.....makes sense,...R2 always has secret missions

Well looks like my thoughts were wrong:(

“But the idea was that in that scene where R2 plugged in, he downloaded the archives of the Empire, which was referenced by Kylo Ren,” Abrams said. Thirty-eight years later, in both our own and galactic time, that data becomes useful in The Force Awakens when a new droid approaches the dormant R2.
“BB-8 comes up and says something to him, which is basically, ‘I’ve got this piece of a map, do you happen to have the rest?’” Abrams said. “The idea was, R2 who has been all over the galaxy, is still in his coma, but he hears this. And it triggers something that would ultimately wake him up.”
The director acknowledges that R2’s sudden “awakening” at the end was designed to be an emotional storytelling utility: “While it may seem, you know, completely lucky and an easy way out, at that point in the movie, when you’ve lost a person, desperately, and somebody you hopefully care about is unconscious, you want someone to return.”
So for those let wondering: BB-8’s earlier question rattles around inside R2’s dome for a while. Those old astromechs must just take a while to boot up again.
Then as the movie draws to a close, our old friend finally comes back – and leads us to another one."

Ah well....a bit lame......unless........they aren't telling us the real reason......because that is part of the next Episode

Yeah, that didn't really come across in the film at all. It makes sense but was very poorly done if true.

What it all seems to come down to is Abrams, Kasdan and Arndt eschewed logic for emotion, and answers to our questions is "reasons".

Perhaps (if I missed someone else suggesting this, apologies) Ren was already on Jakku when Luke's students are massacred because he foresaw what was going to happen and hid her ahead of time.

Thing is, if she were a student, she'd know it. Sure, you tend to forget things from when you're about 5 years old - but, i'm a good deal older than Rey and I can remember being in kindergarten at age 5, where my house was in relation to it, and where my classroom was, etc. So, i think she'd know if she were being taught about being a jedi and that she'd know of han and luke as much more than simply myth.

Re: "All I wanna do is complain about TFA" - only thread

These separate threads are getting out of control. All of these threads need to be merged.

Re: "I loved or mostly loved TFA" - people only thread

he powered up when Rey arrived. I assumed early on it's because she is Luke's daughter but she and Han had a special connection. I wonder what her real story is now.

I'll play with the spoiler tags for now, but anyone in this thread who reads a spoiler they didn't already know about gets what they deserve.

I thought the same

My post from one of the many other threads:

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Agreed. ROTJ's conclusion indicates that the empire is defeated and peace and goodness will rule the galaxy. It's pointless if the empire goes on. It makes the rise of the First Order and the continued rebellion lead by Leia all the more confusing to me. (If she couldn't win it in 30 years maybe it's time for new leadership. Although I guess you have to subtract the time she spent in rehab--BAZINGA!)

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Happy endings are just stories that haven't finished yet.

These take nothing away from the triumphs of the first, because if they failed, the movie would be about the search for Luke Skywalkers grave.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Did you really expect it to be mind blowing like Star Wars? I think it was meh but here I sit for a second viewing with my kids lol!

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

:$ Guess what? ROTJ with its happily ever after ending doesn't exist. The special-ed editions are a crap fest.

Re: "All I wanna do is complain about TFA" - only thread

old style classical fimscores have been rattling their last for a long time now. when johnny and the maestro go(and it won't be long), all you'll have left is zimmer types.

That's a depressing thought. It'll be nothing but rap music and flavor of the month rock bands in soundtracks from now on. It's no wonder so many composers have moved to the game industry.

Last night I went to a Christmas party with a bunch of guys I saw phantom menace with oh so many years ago... The same batch I whined and complained about that movie with for months after.

but this time around it was much different...

"oh man! When Kylo was beating on his wound..."
"oh man... Chewie flipping out after Han died!"
"oh man! When blah blah blah..."

this went on and on... Completely different vibe. All of us in our late 30's, all of us jaded film industry guys...no one bitching, just loving, the force awakens

Christmas miracle.

to top it off my daughter who hates the original movies won a Rey pop figure in the gift swap, and was ecstatic. After tossing out all her nerdy toys at age 14, a nerd toy finally made it back on the shelf.

Side note...

I saw this flick at a different theatre than my brother and best friend... I told them to send one word reviews when done... The three single words at the end of the night:

LOVED

FANTASTIC

CHILLS
