Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I've had the Art of SWTFA for a couple of days and there are some good designs but a ton of bad ones as well. Either they trying too hard to upgrade some existing types, of which the X wings and Ties are the best, or take others in some very odd directions. Either they need to make subtle changes to the A wings, B wings etc like the X or go in a totally new direction and drop the "Wing" reference altogether. The very lack of any decent ships was hugely disappointing because the OT is filled with brilliantly iconic designs.I don't truly know how accurate this is but ILM would have been apparently hard pushed to complete some of the projected effects work in time for release if certain effects heavy sequences had been used so these were dropped early as the production went on. That certainly would account for the lack of variation in what we saw. It also bugged me for ages as to where I thought I had seen a similar ship to Hans freighter until I thought about "Battle beyond the Stars" (Sadors craft).

They really need to fix this for the next lot, but ILM has a huge commitment to a number of VFX heavy films for 2016/2017. Just have a look.

After seeing the movie and reading that article about the vision, I am absolutely convinced that Rey is a descendant of Obi Wan. One theory that had been circulating from a supposed good source seems to work. Obi Wan had a relationship with someone during his exile on Tatooine and that girl grew up to have a relationship with Luke (not sure I buy this part, could be someone else) and produced Rey. The article and the movie make it pretty clear that she is a Kenobi since they went to the trouble of having Ewan come in and fining that clip of Alec. They would not have done this without a clear plan. She is Rey Kenobi, how that came about we will see. I had always thought that the subtext of the first 6 films were about "Kenobi vs Skywalker" from a certain point of view. ;) That theme definately seems to continue since Ren is a Skywalker, and Rey is a Kenobi.

Well...if that was true, she'd still be a skywalker.

My call is $2.9B global.

Its a strong possibility, BUT now working against that is the much shorter domestic release date of the DVD and the on line TV market. Estimates are (unsurprisingly) May 4th 2016 or slightly earlier for Easter. But then again you have a huge generational fan base (3 now), a massive population of none SW fans that will be, thanks to social media pressures, and rave reviews. I think it will break "Avatars " record by some and as Guy pointed out theres now China. Either way its still going to be an immense total.

Already up on Amazon UK £15.99 Blu ray with bonus disk) !!!! And already reviews!!!! damn people are keen!!!

That would be a great twist come EP9. Obi Wan is revealed as the big master Sith lord, he put all these events in order after feeling snubbed when Qui Gon took more of an interest in Annakin than him, leaving his descendants to carry out the torture on the Skywalkers.

Re: "All I wanna do is complain about TFA" - only thread

There were too many people at the screening, people were making noises,....like when the first time you see the Falcon,...there was like gasping noises....& when BB8 did his thumbs up thing,. people were like laughing and all,...so inconsiderate

When Han & Chewie first made an appearance some one said "Yo" quite loud

between marvel, star wars and everything else they now own Disney should just start deducting money strait out of every ones paychecks . it will save time

I just got back from seeing and thought it was really good. EXCEPT killing off Han Solo. Hated that. I hate when movies kill off iconic characters. Boo for that.

Ah yes, the Disney tax. A vast planet spanning corporation that manages to brainwash and enslave people from cradle to grave(but in a good way) . It does sound just a little like the First Order!!!

- oh no can't agree with ya there on the effort Lucas put in! I mean I respect that's the feeling you get from watching ROTJ, but Lucas and co invested a ton of energy into making that film, take a read through Rinzler's 'Making Of'' it was just as difficult to make as the previous two. Lucas's divorce at the time can't have helped.
I'm sure the divorce had an impact on Mr. Lucas' overall demeanor, and that sort of supports my opinion that his heart just wasn't into making the movie.

As I stated upthread I do like Return of the Jedi, but the one scene that stands out the most in my mind is the one in which Han and Lando are discussing Lando piloting the Millennium Falcon during the assault on the second Death Star. I realize this was a late "pick up" shot, but the background they used is obviously one of Ralph McQuarrie's pre-production paintings. It's wonderful, but not particularly realistic. And then, just before the scene ends, Lando turns and walks toward "the Falcon", but Billy Dee Williams has to stop before he runs into the chroma key wall. Seriously??? They couldn't have cut that while he was still walking? I laughed for five minutes the first time I saw the movie because I knew exactly what had happened on the set, and because it was so sloppy and amateurishly executed. It's arguably the worst effects shot in the franchise, and they certainly didn't put a "ton of energy" into it.

So he has Skywalker sensors?
Better than midichlorians. :D

In show business no one is dead until you see the body.
And even then it's not guaranteed.

Re: "All I wanna do is complain about TFA" - only thread

A guy proposed to his girl right before the film started. He was wearing Vader pajamas....And someone from the theater filmed it and all of us reacting.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

A lot of sniveling about how the efforts of the OT mean nothing. It's no different than real life. We effectively win in Iraq, pull out, and now it and the entire globe is overrun with something worse. Marriages fail all the time, kids turn out like crap, $*it happens.

Luke went into hiding because he's being hunted. Just like Yoda and Kenobi before him. He never was some all powerful Jedi. He had a minimum of training.

Sniveling? Droid please.
Because we viewed and were certainly lead to think that it was the end of the war like WWII.
Even the word.. "Empire" implies something like the Japanese Empire.
ROTJ ended.... ."happily ever after". And Star Wars has indeed been compared to fairy tales before.
"A long time ago in galaxy far far away..." That is fairy tale stuff right there.
IF I want drama about failed marriages and effed up kids I can find that in the real world aplenty.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

ROTJ ended with the rebels winning a battle, that's all. All the perceived notions of "happily ever after", and fairy tails don't exist.
