Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

I'm amazed at the high percentage of negative nitpicking.

Then again, I'm not. Was here for all the prequel attacks. Most for "Sith" were undeserved.

Either you enjoy it and take it with all perceived faults, or you stagger around wondering why it wasn't written the way YOU'D have written it.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

I was just thinking about the soundtrack. Yes, disappointing.

I hope you're right about sooner or later getting a good one. There's always hope. A broke clock works twice a day!

I'm not as down on it as Tom and others. I can enjoy it for what it is and move on now. Disney will keep cranking these things out now, eventually we will get a Really Good Star Wars.... Having now seen it twice, there is a lot to be desired for sure. The story I can't say much about, it was messy. But there was one very, very simple thing Disney could have done to have made this movie much more enjoyable the way it is... Now I know this may offend.... And man, this man is a Soundtrack God... But, they should have NOT had John Williams write the new score... Ugh! It pains me to say that.... Why did I love the trailers so much? The Music!!! They used the classic themes in some awesome and incredible ways! ... This soundtrack was, and I hate to say it, CRAP!!! The few times I liked a scene was when the classic reference was playing for like 3 seconds.... Then back to uninteresting gobbly goop... Damn... Sorry guys... But the right music could have helped immensely...

Did the Republic just sit back and watch as the First Order constructed Starkiller base? I mean, is there a Republic military as well as the Resistance? Just wondering if this is explained anywhere?

Unless they can get the original writers back that is.
You forget, Lawrence Kasdan who co-wrote TFA, also co-wrote Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi ...

All the best SW films just drop you into the story. I'm surprised to hear complaints about backstory. Bet there will be a book or other media covering that but the films just ask you to accept the world presented without all the exposition.

...Rey potentially could be a Skywalker, I could see Luke leaving her there for her own good knowing the Force within her would give her the ability to survive.

Or out of fearing to mess up again.

...
I think ink the injuries from Ren were pretty severe.

Yes, but I meant it from a storytelling perspective. Since there wasn´t one defined moment of grieving for Han I almost expected Finn to be dead at the end of the movie. Which of course wouldnßt have made any sense.

Maybe, but didn't Han already knew who Kylo Ren really is? And I'm not talking reveal itself but how IMO stupid Adam Driver's face looks with that outfit.

He did, but probably not what he looked like now. And yeah, a bit lame having a completely (normal?) Adam Driver face given the reasons why Vader wears a mask. Makes him less of a villain and more like an obsessed cos-player.

Yeah, it was supposed to have been constructed out in the "Unknown Regions" so for that I guess read "unexplored". The First Order "conscripted" (read kidnapped) alot of its soldiers then brainwashed them. There was that nod towards "cloning soldiers again" in that discussion about Finns defection.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Everyone responds to a film according to their expectations. Some are set unreasonably high, others low, alot are happy just to met in the middle and give the movie a fifty /fifty chnace of impressing them.
Look ,I watched ANH today ,after seeing TFA yesterday. And as much as I love that damn old movie I have to admit by todays standards it IS slow , perhaps much too much for todays audiences. I'm guessing for the bulk of the RPFs here that took their offspring to see it, well for those kids it will have pushed all the right buttons that ANH did for us,with its young and exciting cast, the cutest and funniest little robot EVER to grace the screen and being a constantly thrilling action packed adventure. If it was one thing alone ,it was never boring, hell it could barely catch its breath and it was off again.
I hear some of what you are saying. There were parts in it that I absolutely loathed as utterly wasted opportunities. Hans "purple people eatter" frieghter was simply an awful moment, scottish accents, terrible CGI monsters, the ropiest acting and lines in the entire film, and the horrible coindicental finding of the Falcon by its former master. It was juvernile stuff and if I'd have got a sniff of that in the script I'm afraid JJ would have possibly got a bit of a ding around the earhole.
But immediately before that nearly everything on Jakku was very impressive, some of the shots were beautiful to look at . The Falcon chase scene alone through the wreckage was just brilliant and it took my breath away to see that done with such panche, something we haven't seen since ESB.
And after the rather unforgivable standing hyperspace jump from the freighter you got the Maz scene which worked brilliantly and was again beautifully evocative of ANH. Lets be honest a pub is a pub in every town and village you go to so the Smugglers Arms is entirely forgivable. Some repetition was inevitable but it was the way it was done that was often more impressive than I hoped.
And thats how the rest of the film went for me. There was far more in it that was exciting and new than there was bad or poor . Hell, it was damn funny alot of the time as well.
So I can forgive most of the sins I hold against it for the bulk of the pleasues it afforded me again and I'm sorry you don't get to experience it in the same way. I can remember THAT horrible feeling from TPM,a cold sinking disappointment that just dogged me for days

Probably in some terrible book we'll get in the near future that tries to rationalize how the First Order and the Resistance are different from their predecessors beyond the name changes.

And about Starkiller base, Leia (I guess?) stated that New Republic decided to stay neutral in case of First Order and that's why Resistance was born.

According to SW database, The Republic had a sort of "pact of non-agression" with the Imperial Remnant. After Mon Mothma had established the Senate on Chandrilla, it seems to have been relocated to Hosnian Prime (a Core World like Coruscant) Some of the Imperial Remnant escaped to the Unknown Region and started forming the FO there.
Since the Republic was demilitarizing, Leia and a few trusted people founded the Resistance, which is a sort of underground paramilitary organization, secretly funded by a few likeminded senators. It seems to be tolerated, but not officially endorsed by the Republic, due to the Concordate.
Well, since Hosnian Prime is now dust, I guess the rest of the Republic will now rally behind the Resistance.

Characters with normal faces are everywhere in SW, I don't think it's a valid criticism to suggest they all need to be injured to wear a helmet.

The books are beginning to lay out a story where the Republic was afraid of forming a military to counter the First Order and Leia took it on herself to start what is sort of a second Rebel Alliance called the Resistance.

For those who say the music wasn't noticeable, the "force theme" at that moment is what made it so stirring. Best use of that theme since the sunset in ANH, maybe even better.

The call back music was memorable. I need to listen to the soundtrack to get a better feel of the film music, I spent too much time focused on the on screen action that I missed the new themes.

Totally agree Tom http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=252080&page=8&p=3846415&viewfull=1#post3846415 it won't do as well as they thought most of the people I've actually talked to don't think this was that good, and funnily many commented on the jokes!

Re: Star Wars TFA. My Review. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!!!!!!.

Try again:

Outside of his tantrums, he displayed considerable "force powers" leading one to reasonably conclude he could actually use his weapon (defend himself) against someone who just picked up a saber for the first time, 24 hours ago. We're talking about a guy who can deflect blasts in mid-air, but Rey is just too much for him. Yeah, Okay.

Sword fighting isn't a force power. She was good with her staff- we don't know anything about her training or hobbies. Maybe she went to fencing school. Maybe she is super force enabled and that helped her. Plus he was bleeding and that bothered him. He kept trying to injure his injury by hitting it with his fist. He lost control.

I don't know, it just didn't bother me that that was the outcome.
