Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

The only real problem I have with Return of the Jedi is that it isn't quite as "polished" as A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. The dialogue, the effects, some of the characters...it feels like Lucas made the movie because he had to at that point, not because he wanted to, so he gave it about 75% of the effort he'd put into the previous movies, then said, "Ehhhh, that's good enough."

On a separate note, I'm guessing Rey is either going to be Luke's daughter, or his niece/Kylo Ren's twin sister.

- oh no can't agree with ya there on the effort Lucas put in! I mean I respect that's the feeling you get from watching ROTJ, but Lucas and co invested a ton of energy into making that film, take a read through Rinzler's 'Making Of'' it was just as difficult to make as the previous two. Lucas's divorce at the time can't have helped.

You know what? I buy the meeting Rey and leia had.

This is there first meeting and they know about each other. Not only that, but they share something pretty big.

And as far as rey's lineage goes, here it is: she's Luke's daughter. Immaculate conception. Midichlorians.

Very painful

BTW, Ewan McGregor recorded dialogue for the film. It was probably him yelling "rey".

The prequels exist!

Kylo is about 30 and Rey is around 20, so about 10 years difference. I think Rey being a Kenobi is more likely then a Skywalker.

I understand some die hard fans may not like this movie but the general audience reaction is hugely positive and I think word of mouth and a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes will drive this film towards a $3B global box office record.

About the rehashing:
When I watched Episode 1 for the first time I almost immediately grabbed for that one logical straw in terms of saga storytelling. I talked myself into believing that EP1 was just a prologue. Because there was so damn much exposition in it and so much filler.

Now that I have watched Episode 7 I like to think of it as something very similar.

I cannot remember a franchise where something similar was done before, i.e. having to bridge a time gap of thirty+ years. The mirroring of past events and setting things up for the future was done IMO very well, we are indeed looking at a larger galaxy.

I have yet to hear the "next generation" complain about this movie. I am referring to the 8+ year olds, i.e. us about 30 years ago.

Luke's 15 minutes if training. No saber training. Run, climb a rope, do a hand stand. bam, you are a Jedi.:facepalm
There was scripts and there were storyboards for Luke training with his lightsaber on Dagobah. I wonder what happened to the scene.. if it was shot at all.

TFA stll sucks though.
I have already said it: There is potential for an amazing fan-edit.

BTW, for me as an adult, ESB is the best movie but ROTJ is my favourite because it appealed the most to me when I was a kid.
The Star Wars movies were the perfect movies for a kid who loved adventure movies at the time.
Besides the Star Wars movies, my next favourite movie when I was a kid was The Crimson Pirate - lots of action, light-hearted comedy and Burt Lancaster doing circus tricks. ANH and ROTJ had all of that .. But faster, and In Space!.
Those movies had magic. Heck, even Howard The Duck and Willow have some magic. I did not feel that TFA has as much magic.

Every time I see an interview with J.J.Abrams, he looks uptight and super-stressed, as if he has been awake for 21 hours straight already. And that is how that movie feels - as if the people who wrote, directed and cut the movie have had too little sleep and had too much caffeine.

How could rey be a kenobi? She's 20 and he died almost 40 years ago.

BTW, the other nitpick is the two gangs that were looking for Han.

Why did they look like they were from firefly? Or even ice pirates?

It was a perfect opportunity to have some familiar aliens and they totally cheaper out.

We're there any previously established aliens? (Other than akbar and the niem numb guy)

But in the end, the die hard fans have a better sense of what will make this film have longetivity.

It was R2's mission to wait until Lukes daughter turned up & return her to him

J
So he has Skywalker sensors?

For all the crap Lucas has taken since the buy out, disney certainly tried pretty hard to imitate a new hope.

One thing I loved was the first order. The bad guys were bang on in this thing. (I would have liked more phasma)

But I always saw the empire like north Korea. Taking over and slowing down progress, removing colour, oppressing lives and controlling manufacturing.

But the first order seems like some isis faction. They control the government, but they are sweeping across the galaxy with brutal calculation
