Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Agreed, 100%... The music was epic in the trailers, I was so so with the Williams score, other than Rey's theme... I hope they get the guy who put together the trailer score to compose Rogue One or other SW music! Lol

I don't know....I love JW music in the SW movies,....I think it's important to keep all the episodes uniform, but I would love to move against traditions with the Spin-off films,....Daft Punk's electronic & orchestral mix on Tron Legacy's style would be a cool direction,...Star Wars Headspace

I love all the people lying to themselves saying they won't be buying this movie. If you have the rest of the series, regardless of your opinion of the movie, you still have to complete the collection.

The only way I'll own it is if I like the next two and buy some sort of saga collection. I don't need to own a movie I don't care for. Besides, I barely consider it part of the series.

See there? "Completist" mentality.

Me, I love the movie Jaws. I bought the video tape way back when, then the DVD, and later the Blu-ray. But I haven't wasted a penny on any of the sequels because they ranged from bad (Jaws 2) to really bad (Jaws 3-D) to "they actually spent money on this?" bad (Jaws: The Revenge). In the case of Star Wars, I like some of the movies more than others, but haven't seen one that I'd call bad. Not yet, anyway. And if that day comes, I won't be buying it regardless of the fact that I have all of the others in my collection. Simple as that.

No Commentary? That's unusual for a big JJ Abrams movie. They must have really wanted this release out the door asap.

Oh, come on. It was all worth it for the 'Jaws: The Revenge' novilization. Two words. Voodoo Shark. Totally worth the completist mentality.

I actually have a lot of the music now burned in my head. I find myself humming a lot of the themes in there and has really grown on me. I think Rey's theme will develop more and is just a beginning. I hope to hear a more extended track to Kylo Ren because I just love that little handful of notes that drop whenever he comes in to the scene.

I REALLY wished the trailer music was actually in the film because that stuff was full-on epic as all heck. I enjoy the score to TFA a lot, but I can't say it's perfect. It's definitely the least full sounding of the saga.

As for the movies.... I think I'll be getting the special Target pack and Steelbook. You gotta get in on these the week of release when they're at their best prices. Especially now with Disney behind these films, those prices will not budge much after that.

Having listened to all the SW soundtracks over the last few weeks I can actually hear what a few people are finding difficult to accept with TFA soundtrack. Its a much subtler work ,less strident than the OT, and it introduces more new themes than any of the others. Personally I really like Reys because its almost the perfect counterpoint for Lukes ,and Kylos, though the FO does lack the imperial marching power of Empire.
If its any consolation I imagine with Luke now firmly in the frame in EPVIII , John Williams will be able to weave far more of the older themes we so associate with SW more frequently into this movie as well as strengthen the FO, which is what happens with "TESB" and "ROTJ"

I'm with you there, TFA has a lot of new (and thus less related to the OT themes) but I believe/hope JW has a masterplan laid out where he will intertwine old and new themes skillfully in the next movies. If he does, let's just hope he still lives long enough to bring it to fruition, or at least leave enough notes for another composer, should the inevitable happen before the end of the trilogy.

Wow, this comment really makes it sound like Daisy is suggesting Rey is definitely not a Solo.

The more I listen to the John Williams TFA score, I am firmly in the "Rey is a Skywalker" camp. The intertwining and similarities between Rey's Theme, The Force Theme and the Imperial March all point to her being a Skywalker. At first I was reluctant to even think Luke could have any offspring. But, following in the footsteps of his father and the overarching storyline... it only makes me hope she is in fact Luke's daughter. :)

The soundtrack to TFA is simply amazing. Especially "Rey's Theme" and "The Jedi Steps and Finale". Pure classic SW / John Williams. That excitement I felt as a kid is back and back in a HUGE WAY! :)

Don't even speak of it! With his music and all he has given... he will live forever. :)

I love the soundtrack apart from the opening fanfare which sounds less powerful than the LSO,....but.....I can't the post,......there was a guy who had a youtube video & he had analysed Reys theme,....showing the underline progression of notes and they were almost exactly the same as the Imperial March,....intentional or coincidental?.....theres a lot more hidden under the surface,.....JW=genius

Hey J,

That's exactly what I was referring to. I saw/listened to the same video. Genius? Understatement! :)

Agreed. The guy knows what he's doing which is why I find it laughable when I read armchair critics opining that he's too old or past his prime. At first I too was a bit jolted by what we got, but I'm now understanding it is a much more nuanced and subtle work than we've had before. Rey's Theme, Farewell and the Trip, The Ways of The Force and most certainly Jedi Steps are my favorites. I like Kylo's motif though he doesn't yet have a fully fleshed out theme (much like Vader in ANH).

Minus the cruddy MIDI sounding instruments used for this, makes for an interesting take on a different tone to the Vader theme:

As far as the other complaints people have made on the TFA soundtrack, I think it's because it's pretty much all brand new themes across the board mixed in with some familiar stuff and people are just not vibing with it as much.

The major weak part for me in the whole score (to me) is just how that first attack note came in on the opening scroll. It was just not there with the rest of the films. Other than that I am happy with all the music I have heard. I think it's going to get even more rich with this next film as the characters get further fleshed out more and is only holding back some to help not reveal some of the mysteries we have yet to uncover for what's ahead.

WOW! Sounds / feels like I'm watching an old John Wayne WWII movie or maybe even The Great Escape! :) Love it!

Yeah it's pretty amazing and would have maybe been a really cool way to start Anakin off and the beginning of the republic music into this great positive portrayal of "good". It would have made the Imperial March a perfect tone for the eventual corruption into the galactic empire.
