Star Wars scratch built pod racer

HI everyone, here is a scratch built pod racer I made a few years ago for a display diorama which never came together. It is not based on any of the ones seen in the film, just a complete scratch built version of my own cobbled design. It uses many parts from many things which seemed to work together. I know this is the Replica Prop Forum, but I thought it was worth sharing even though its not a replica. Its about 22 inches long in its present position with the cables crossed (just so it fits in one of my display cases), it was made to stretch out to about 30 inches in its full displayed position on the large diorama together with other peoples builds. Hope you guys like it.

Cheers Dizzy, Sometimes I just get the urge to make something from bits of everything instead of following "the rules". I'm sure there are loads of folk out there doing the same thing as well. Glad you like it as its been sitting in my garage for a couple of years unseen.

Very nice weathering , I love the engines , they look like alternators , could you take a close up of the pilot cockpit .

Thanks crackerjazz, this was a first attempt at using weathering pigments in powder form, I wasn't sure how they would look, but it turned out ok. the main issue I had was sealing them into position after each application, as whenever I added the sealer coat they changed colour !, so some of the final colours are not sealed. I haven't used them since, as the models I've weathered since then have all been large scale in other peoples collections, and I didn't want them to keep handling the models and smudging the finish, not good for a client. I did go kind of mad on them though to see what happened. ! great for a dusty pod racer track though

Thanks vacformed hero. The engines are many things. Ill list them to make you really bored !!HAHA
from the front we have. red cones from arrow nocks (they fit the end of an arrow into the forked plastic fitting which holds the bow line from archery)
behind them are GoPed fluid drive units, (the alternator looking things)
next in line are half moutainboard wheels, split rims.
behind those are large ends of a battery torch with slots cut into them, and I also used the rubber moulding from the torch handles to make the raised panels on the mountain board wheel halves.
inside the torch ends we have some carpet protectors which go under chair legs, 3 in each torch, covered with various tank parts and pipes.
behind those are guttering downpipe filters to keep leaves out of your drains, and hiding inside these is the reflector of the torch painted grey.
after that we have some Bandai thunderbird three fuselage flutes for the engine exhausts. and holding it all together are two 12mm stainless bolts screwed into the goped drives which compress the whole thing together. !!!

as for a closer look at the cockpit no worries. just be aware that the figure was never completed as I was going to make him really alien but the build was cancelled and I shelved the model at that point. Glad you like it. it was another fun build with no guidelines at all, except the scale of the figure. I cant get the image to attach, ill post it below

brilliant work, yeah the freedom to work on something of your own design is much better ,
Is that headphone parts in the trusters? Nicely done and thanks for posting

The thruster housings are made from the base of a alarm clock which had 2 half ball type feet on it, they are the same moulding as the backrest on the seat. the center thruster is the nosecone from an imai Sky 1 kite from UFO with the obvious wheel thrown in there. I can believe I remembered all this !. the top bit of the body is from the boba fet ship to give the rounded nose, and below is a silly putty egg I think, as for the rest of it, I cant remember those. Thanks for checking it out and the kind words.

Maybe I missed it, but curious what it scales out to (at least the figure in it)

Was it built to 1/32 to match the Anakin Podracer from AMT/ERTL (or Revell's version for that matter)?

I think its a 1/24 scale figure, it was bought as a separate figure off ebay and I think he was a tank driver.
