So over the past few years I've really wanted to make my own original Star Wars costume. I've had the picture in my mind of what I want to do with it, but I just recently started working on bringing it into the material plane. I'm hoping to have this done by SWC 2017, so I can have something a little different to wear down there. Something to set me apart from the inevitable swarms of Kylo's, Rey's, and TKs.
The basis of the costume came from wanting to do an armored Jedi with a gladiators type of armor-set, but I'm a bigger fan of the desert scavengers and cantina crawlers so I took it a bit of a different direction. I wanted something along the lines of "space cowboy", so I knew I wanted a cloak or overcoat of some sort, and a brown leather holster, but I really liked the appearance of the single armored armor so that stuck, and this is essentially what came of all that.
First of all, thanks for Fierfek for his awesome work on SW pep files. All of the armor I will be using for the costume will be utilizing his free files (with some minor tweaks to the finished product). I don't want to have completely identical armor to any of the SW characters already in use, but I want to stick with themes that are consistent within the established SW universe.
Secondly, thanks to Wenners for doing the sketch of the character. I've had the character up in my head for so long that it didn't take much to describe the appearance, but she nailed the art. The sketch came out exactly the way I had imagined it. I colored it in to try a few color schemes and this is what I came up with. (The colors are not identical to what I have for fabric and paint, but it's close enough)

Next was picking out the fabrics. I went with a charcoal donegal weave cotton I had on the shelf for the pants. A poly/cotton twill in navy for the vest. A brown monk's cloth cotton for the cloak and infinity scarf. The off-white shirt still hasn't been decided yet. I want a lot of texture to the materials used, so I'm trying to go with a handful of different weaves.

Lately, I've been working on the hard pieces. So far it's been just the chest set, which is Boba Fett armor without the center diamond. I just finished fiberglassing that set, so next is onto the bondo. The original arm armor was based off of the republic commando, but I think the contour is too rigid and detailed for an OT style character. I think I am still going to use the patterns, but I'm going to "dumb down" the design a bit.

Hopefully more progress to be shown soon!
