STAR WARS Rebels new animated series!

Interesting thought although I'd say that it would do a rather lousy job as a flak jacket considering how little it covers. It would work a little better protecting her against blasters since it covers her center of mass, that's assuming, of course, that the plates are actually blaster prop or at least blaster resistant even if we've little to nothing that actually is as far as personal body armor is concerned.

That's why I say like a flak jacket since it covers COM,now with the gal-who knows? that get up looks more fantasy then fact unlike Boba's or any other Mandalor I've seen depicted.

And as I noted in the SW verse none of the armor comes across as blaster proof so I have to wonder what purpose it serves....

Who knows since Star Wars armor, at least Imperial armor, isn't even rock and stone tipped spear proof. What kind of armor can't even stop stone age weaponry? If that's the best there is it's no wonder why we never see any of the Rebels ever wear any more armor than a helmet.

It's quite simple… If someone wears armor, whether it is selective areas or entire body, it serves a specific purpose or else they wouldn't wear it. As fan of a fantasy based movie, that is really all we should need.

However, I know there are some of you who can't sleep at night due to this issue so let me try to help you out. Trooper armor may not be for the purpose of weapon protection but for protection from environmental conditions and decrease the need for personal maintenance, and increase performance. Meaning that the armor may aid in:

  • Protection from harsh environments
  • Enable to operate in low or non oxygen locations and non gravity locations
  • Protection and from radiation and space atmosphere
  • Better access to communication and timely data
  • Maintain personal needs: waste disposal/recycling, nutrients
  • Increase vision and endurance.
  • Intimidation

I would also say that there is armor in the SW universe that has protection from the average blaster. But that may have trade offs such as bulk and/or weight and most likely cost. And as such, that type of armor might be worn in strategic locations such as Fett does on his chest.

Stormtroopers wear armor because they operate in stationed areas for long periods of time. The want to be a visible presence and do not need to move in stealth mode. Rebels mainly operate in stealth and/or hit and run. For rebels, the advantages of wearing armor is not as beneficial and may be a liability.

Let's also consider that the Empire may have a huge military budget but it is a budget. The trooper armor provided may be similar to their selection of the TIE Fighter. The craft has no shields and no environmental controls even though technology exist to provide them. So even though there might be the ability for armor to be better, the cost/benefit analysis may not support it.

I gotta say, with the pre-release stuff going around, I'm actually looking forward to this! I wouldn't say I have high expectations, but it looks like it'll be a fun show.

Nice! I love it!

That stormtrooper looks horrible!!

It doesn't look that bad, it just looks that way because it's been stylized to fit in with the other character designs. You have to keep in mind that they're not going for photorealism here nor are they likely interested 100% accuracy or planning on submitting these designs to the 501st for membership. I think that the vast majority of the audience won't either notice or care, they'll just see stormtroopers and that's probably what the producers were aiming for.

Never understand why people would want an animated show to be photo realistic.

Maybe they would have gone with this helmet design so that we would stop having people trying to compare animated series troopers to live movie troopers. :wacko

'Star Wars Rebels': Dave Filoni takes 'Star Wars' back to its roots - latimes.com

The new series is expected return to the fast-paced storytelling and punchy dialogue fans loved about the original trilogy of films. Gone will be the intergalactic politics and trade embargoes that many fans complained about in the prequel films."In 'Rebels,' you'll be in scenarios where you hear things have taken place that are furthering the story, but you won't be watching those politics unfold," Filoni said. "It's on a more human level."

Also, don't expect to see the kind of lightning-quick lightsaber battles that defined "Clone Wars" and the prequel films. The mystical powers of the Force will be taking a back seat in the new series.

I'm a little hesitant. The animation doesn't look to well, but the story seems pretty cool. On the other hand the characters..............:confused
