I appreciate your disdain for the binary arguments of "It's just a kids show" or "It's just to sell toys". It's simply not that, but it also is that. Creatively the show isn't simply a marketing vehicle, but it also has to be to some extent. It's the nature of the beast. It's a very difficult line to walk. Now wearing my business analysis hat, to think that Disney would have allowed this show to be produced without Jedi is a challenge for me. I can't prove it, but would not be surprised if that was part of their requirements for the production team. Because they knew it would be effective. It's a publicly traded company and too much money is at stake.
