Star Wars paper mache training remote

I always thought the training remote would make a good pinata. I want to make this a reality. Although I learned recently Futurama already did it. In season 2, the episode called "War Is the H-Word", the character Fry gets to take a few whacks at a Star Wars training remote pinata.

You can watch the scene here at about 4:48 minutes in.

I just bought a Master Replicas training remote and I need some ideas on how to best make a mold and then make a paper mache training remote. I could just get shredded paper and glue and do a rough rotocast.

I'm thinking if the quality was similar to a 4 cup paper tray commonly found at fast food restaurants that would be excellent but to manufacture those is another process.

I can simply make a two part mold and glue the two halves together but it may not be strong enough.

I will eventually have to source a blast shield helmet and a light saber.

Any suggestions on how to make a paper mache training remote.

Thanks

Re: Star Wars (ANH)

You may have more success and less headache just building a pinata around a balloon for the core sphere, and then add on the other protrusions and stuff with subsequent layers of papier mache strips. I've posted a recipe for engrudo/migajon on the RPF before, try searching for those two words. I'm not on my laptop right now, or I'd post it again.

Another option would be to cover the MR remote in saran wrap and either press a clay mold around it to lay strips/pulp into, or to apply the papier mache directly onto the saran wrap and cut it off when dry. Don't scratch the remote. :)

I was hoping I could make it "mass produced" on a small scale, minimal post/prep work. Maybe a quick paintjob but that would be it. There is a pinata store near me that I will check out.

Are you asking how to RECAST someone elses work for ""mass produced" on a small scale"? :eek :angry

I think he means just to have a few prepped to use for a party. I don't think he's going into the pinata business.

Not going into the pinata business, just make a few for family and friends. Less than 10 I total. Fair use?
