Star Wars: Old Republic Rifle - Build

Hey all, I have started work on building the Republic Rifle shown in the CG trailers for Star Wars: The Old Republic to go with my future Havoc Squad armor.

Thought I'd start the build thread here. This is really my first prop build.

Decided to do it out of MDF for ease of sanding and taking a very high rez side view of the rifle from a BLUR preview art, I made some templates

The beginning cut:

Cutting the sides of the base. Did them separately so I could take it apart during assembly if i screwed it up

Here is the opposite side. Got the handle sanded down:

I started to do the side details. They didn't come out right but I think I know what is wrong now. Was very hard to cut with a jig saw so I might have to do some with a dremel very slowly I'm thinking

Got the slant cut on the top of the gun but am going to have to manually cut the bottom slant down with a chisel and a hand sander. Also assembled part of the barrel and cut the scope.

MDF guns are always interesting!
And that one is a very nice gun design :)
What will you use for the rear part of the scope?
Looking forward to see this gun finished!

I'm still trying to figure that out. I may look for actual scope ends to have the rubber eye bumper part at least

ok! "Real" parts like scope mounts are always a very good addition. I love a mixture of mdf, scratch build and real parts! :)

Some updates. Sanded down the sides to a 45 degree angle and sanded down the trigger and circle hook. Also cut out the beginning of the details which still need sanding as well.
