Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

I just don’t want to see him meet vader.. leaving the planet I don’t want either.. but I can somewhat except him leaving the planet then him facing vader again…
See your giving them Ideas...
But seriously I wonder what the content will actually be as he's supposed to be in isolation but also overseeing Luke from a far...

I really don't want Crazy Old Ben popping in to see the Lars for a pint of Blue Juice ...

To my mind that's what this show should be. It's not going be that but this summation sounds perfect to me.
Totally agree! That sounds great.

I know people would whine that we’ve gotten too much Tatooine but Ben’s story should’ve been a small scale, introspective tale on Tatooine and Fett’s story should’ve started there and taken him across the galaxy. I fear the inverse will be the reality.

If the material was handled by a competent writer who could execute a character study and show restraint, while also balancing the story out that it was so engaging that it didn't need tons of action to be entertaining. There are movies and shows with minimal locations or just a handful of characters that are so engrossing that you don't notice the simplicity. Alas showing restraint, making the most of story and character, these are all traits severly lacking. Far too often these things are treated as disposable and meaningless, or the few things that remain with any substance are robbed of meaning by lackluster choices.

Oh absolutely! Tatooine can and should be main stage for Kenobi's story because that's where he's most effective at this point in the timeline. Keeping Boba isolated to this planet seemed nonsensical. If anything he should have been hopping all over the place, from job to job, bounty to bounty. Man with no name style.

That's not Star Wars.

That's the thing. If they adopted the idea of genre story telling, it doesn't have to be all action, all the time. That's the reason why most of the content has sucked so bad. The OT was like a hybrid of a Western/ Samurai film in space mixed with King Arthur. We loved that. George tried to push the story into political intrigue/ historical drama with the PT. It didn't work very well, but it was a different direction for the series.

But imagine for a moment that Star Wars could be, a Film Noir, in space. Or a Crime drama in space. Or a horror movie in space. Take a genre and adapt Star Wars to it. Use the trappings we all know and love in NEW ways. That's why the content is stale, lifeless and devoid of creativity, because the content they deliver is always set in ONE genre rather than explore others.

To me this seems so obvious but I think the creatives have such a miopic view that it tends to cloud their judgment when writing.

This is key to why many projects have been a straight hit or a straight miss for me. Examples of hits: Mando, TLJ, R1. Misses; TFA, TROS, BOBF.

I disagree with you on TLJ, but the other examples I'm right there with you. Rogue One was intended to be War film. Mandalorian was intended to be a Samurai/ Journeyman Protector show. Using tropes and themes from those types of stories just set in a galaxy far, far away. Even if I have my reservations about each of these I have to give them credit for taking risks.

Rightfully those two examples are often the benchmark that fans site when they talk about new material that they connected with. They're generally considered the best of the new material.

Let's not get into TLJ talk again haha

This is why I ended up absolutely loving The Clone Wars. After the pretty meh first season they leaned into genre storytelling in the second season and after. They told a lot of good character stories, that just happened to be set in the Star Wars universe. Not all of the arcs were hits to be sure, but they had some of the best Star Wars stories I've ever watched in there as well.

Ain't that The Truth!....

It really is after giving that casting vote in The Senate...Silly old Jar Jar.

I'd love to see him return...
Either as a bloated cartel boss drunk on lust and power..
Or a downtrodden bum in the backstreets of Naboo selling junk parts rather like Watoo who ends up meeting Din needing a coffee cup holder for his N1 SF..

I'm sure someone will be along in a minute to out us straight ;)
Didn’t he show up as a homeless streetperformer in one of the books? I think because of his role in creating the Empire?
