Over to the desk project. Tonight I thought I'd drill a huge hole in the end of my new desk with a 4" hole saw.

The more this project is outrageous, the more I like it!
Now my office is a little more usable and comfortable for daily life. This cup holder is a 12 volt LED lighted, originally designed for boats. Made of stainless steel, it can weather any Alderaan battle. You can get these at Meijer (only online) Item # 50091042 in your choice of red or blue. Enjoy!
The level of detail and love in this build is awesome. So looking forward to the finished room. You should some of the 501st to offically open the room for you. HA!
And i thought just having Star Wars curtains was the mutts nuts...how wrong i was!
Today I installed a 2nd cup holder in the leftside of the desk. You can see part of the left desk support. The legs are trimmed out in aluminum channel. More on the desk design and construction later.
Eric, there is a seller called hkesupplier that sells a lot of those LED strip kits on ebay. I bought my first set in March of 2011 and they ship out of Hong Kong. Now they are a lot less expensive. This is the exact set I got, still available from them. They call it "5M Waterproof RGB 5050 LED Strip+44 IR Remote +Power"5M Waterproof RGB 5050 LED Strip 44 IR Remote Power | eBay
For my desk platform, I got a longer set with 2 strings of LEDs and a larger "silver metal box"-type power supply. The bigger power supplies will power more feet of LED's. I used that same company again for the platform LED kit.
I wonder if there is a thread here covering remote controlling LEDs with a Logitech Harmony One remote? That would be cool. I looked on Google earlier, but there were only complex experiments to control them, nothing ready for market.
A lot of progress has been made on the paint. Tonight I'm getting the Millennium Falcon cockpit window ready to put over the room window frame and see how it looks. See all those paint cans? There are 13 shades used from primer to gloss white to flat black, plus a black paint marker for detail work.
This will snap over the room window frame with magnet catches. The very bottom of this (where the stripes are) will get another wood section overlaid, as the room window is slightly taller than this 4-ft tall piece of hardboard.
The best part is going to be when I get some black roller shades behind this. I'm going to make "hyperspace jump" stars on the shades, stretching out from the center.
