MPC,or fine molds would be your best bet!

Some of the new revell stuff can make decent replicas, the republic star destroyer looks Ok out of the box and can be super detailed nicely.

The imperial shuttle seems ok and is about the same scale as the old MPC/AMT ertl Millenium Falcon.

The Episode three Jedi fighters are small but quite nice once they're painted up and weathered.the only real gripe isthat the easy kits don't have decals so you're forced to use some of the pre painted parts which can make colour matching a bit of a problem.

There's a lot of kits out there and you can find just about anything you want. You have a choice of plastic, resin, vinyl, soap, just kidding, etc.

And here is a shameless plug for an older AMT model that darn it, deserves more respect!:cool

I just finished putting together a AMT falcon. I did a few mods to it. I need to do the paint job on it. I will post pics when it's done. Here a x-wing and snowspeeder from AMT. Also a vinyl Vader.

they look awesome. love the vader.
just got myself a vintage falcon ertl/mpc. looking around the net for the add ons and possibly a lighting kit.

Very good looking vader! I have the exact same model, but only I made mine look more like the Empire strikes back version. I also made a lightsaber for him,as the one that came with it was,(of course)Ben Kenobis'! I'm thinking about putting it(Bens' lightsaber)up for sale on ebay,as I've already painted it. Only,I painted the blade red-instead of blue. :unsure

I know they are $$, but I really like the new Revell Easy Kits as I suck at painting but I can wheather up a model and give it some snap well. I have the X and Y wings, Falcon, and ATT. They build it nice and easy and are fun to tweak.

The AMT/Ertl kits are a pretty good value for the price, but most of them require quite a bit of work to make them look good. If you're not overly concerned with accuracy, don't mind the extra work, and are familiar with styrene, they're a good way to go (especially if you want to use them as "practice pieces" to hone your skills).

As for the Revell kits (both the U.S. and Germany releases), they're a mixed bag. The kits from the Original Trilogy are essentially the same as the AMT/Ertl kits, except they're smaller and most are prepainted; both the details and prepainting are somewhat inaccurate. Again, if accuracy isn't a concern, they're also a good value for the price. The Revell kits from the Prequel Trilogy are a little more accurately detailed, but the prepaint work is about the same as the rest.

And then there's Fine Molds. Currently the most accurately detailed Star Wars kits available; not perfect, but far closer than the AMT/Ertl and Revell kits. The majority are 1/72 scale, so they're smaller than their AMT/Ertl and Revell counterparts, but they're also more expensive. On the plus side, Fine Molds' kits are so well engineered that they require none of the extra work the AMT/Ertl and Revell kits require; they practically put themselves together. They are, however, all glue kits--no snap-together kits here--so gluing, minor puttying, and painting are required.

The Episode three Jedi fighters are small but quite nice once they're painted up and weathered.the only real gripe isthat the easy kits don't have decals so you're forced to use some of the pre painted parts which can make colour matching a bit of a problem.
You can get decals for some of the markings here:

Good customer service, great products. And no, I'm not associated with the site in any way apart from being a satisfied customer, so I don't make a dime if you buy from them. Just trying to help. :cool

Here're some photos that'll give you a better idea. I had to make some greeblies by hand, and change some of the panel lines to make it more accurate, but like Zombie 61 said, this is a lot of work,if you're not used to this kind of model building. This will show you that even so,you can build a very nice model with the MPC version of this kit. Click on each picture once to enlarge, then double click on it to see it full size.
