Star Wars meets Sons of Anarchy / Motorcycle gang Han Solo

So for Halloween I had decided to do a Marty McFly costume. I have most of it done but have having trouble finding a jean jacket and down vest.


Then last week I got my hair cut and brought back my favorite hair style. My mohawk.





So now Marty will not work with a big mohawk so I had to rethink my costume.
It's hard to find a costume that will work with a mohawk so I had to get creative.
While watching one of my favorite tv shows, Sons of Anarchy, I started to think of away to infuse the style of the motorcycle clubs outfits with my favorite costume to wear, Han Solo


The motorcycle club wears vests ('cuts') that always reminded me of Solo's vest
So I drew out a design of Solo and added some biker elements





My idea was to turn Solo's vest into a biker cut from a gang that could exist in the Star Wars Universe
He will wear a long sleeve henley shirt underneath, which is really a modern version of Solo's deep v-neck under shirt
Instead of the blue pants, i have torn up blue jeans, That I am going to add the corellian bloodstripes too to still have the element of Solo with it.
I am going to draw on tattoos, the one im most excited about is a cursive 'LEIA' on my neck


If anyone watches Sons of Anarchy (and is caught up with the new season) Jax wheres a new patch that says "Im memory of 'OPIE' "
So I thought to have some fun with it, I will make a similar patch that says " In memory of 'CHEWY' "


I bought this leather jacket from a thrift store and removed the sleeves
Then I made some templates for the vest patches for front and pocket shapes
I will be making the pockets from the leather of the cut off sleeves. The jacket looked too plain and felt the pockets would help






(I have since colored the white stitching on the vest black, i hated the way the white looked)


The back patch with be a big Rebel logo
with ' REBEL SCUM ' above it
and ' TATTOOINE ' under it


The front patches will say
(Left side)
CAPTAIN
(and under it)
REBEL CREW


(right side)
MOS EISLEY
(under)
ORIGINAL




I cannot tell you how excited I am to make this costume. I just hope people get it lol


I will be wearing it to the SILVER SNAIL HALLOWEEN PARTY in Toronto

Tonight I will be making some test patches and laying out the design for the back patches

I love this idea and can't wait to see it. The patch ideas are great, my only suggestion would be to change 'In memory of Opie' to 'In memory of Obi'. The thought of the Chewy patch is too sad. Either way, this should be classic.

I thought about the patch a lot and i agree its sad lol but I thought about it and to me Jax/Opie are very similar to Han/Chewy

Jax/Han are the tough leading men, who arnt afraid of anything and have a shoot first ask questions later attitude

and Opie/Chewy are they huge, hairy, best friend/sidekick, who would take a bullet for their friend

Yesterday I went to my local Flea Market and found a man who does embroidered patches and order the 4 front patches
They will be ready on Saturday which is amazing! and only cost me $28 for 4 patches

He dosnt make the big arc shaped patches for the back but I am going back today to order the "in memory of" patch that I forgot about yesterday

After thinking about it, tauriice convinced me and the "memory patch" will say
"In MEMORY of"
"OBI"

It just started to sound more and more right

Today and tomorrow, hopefully I can get started on the back patches and making the front pockets

UPDATE

Been busy with work so things have slowed down and I need to get cracking fast!

while i wait for my front patches to be ready. I need to start on the back patches
tonight I tried to determine the size of the back patches and this is what i have



the font will be different. just to see the sizing
im going to cut these out of scrap fabric and write on the words with a fabric marker
I dont have time to find anyone to make the back patches right now, so this will do.
if this costume is a success I plan on doing it justice and upgrading it down the road

to finish this costume, I need to:
make and attach the 3 big back patches
attach the front patches when i get them
make and attach the leather pockets
and
add blood stripes to jeans

I am also working on a costume for my 9 year old cousin so I am going to need to burn the candle at both ends for a while

#1 is obviously Star Wars font
#2 is called Flatbread

which works??

I didnt get around to ordering the "In memory of OBI" patch so I had to make my own



Its not perfect but I like it for what I need it for

hopefully getting a lot done tomorrow morning

Progress!!

I woke up early today and instantly started working on my Biker Han Solo costume

After a hour of fighting with my sewing machine (who apparently wanted to sleep in)...I WON!!

I sewed on the first patch! `In memory of OBI`patch

Then I started making the pockets for the front
and I dont know if anyone ever said making a leather pocket was easy....but if someone did.....F YOU!

But after a hard fought battle, once again I am victorious and the first pocket is on!

Now I need to make the top flap and the first pocket is 100% done

Cant wait to do more!

So much progress today!!

This morning I got half of the first pocket done and the "in memory" patch on the cut

I had to help my mother with some landscaping work so was out most of the day. When I got home it was right back to work!

I finished both pockets and the pocket flaps, even added snap buttons
I was so happy to get the pockets on I started adding the patches I got made

This picture makes me far too happy lol



I had the biggest smile on my face sewing them on lol

Going to add the final 2 small patches and the front is done!!! then sleep!! lol
