Hi,
I have a Star Trek TOS communicator I bought as a kid in 1988 and I'm trying to identify. I think it came from a prop kit and would appreciate help identifying. I looked on thecopycats.org Star Trek TOS Prop Replica Reference Guide and I can't find one with the distinguishing factors of a sealed back with no screws.
I purchased it in 1988/89 in Seattle, Wa.
  • The color is a very dark grey/black, not jet black
  • No electronics inside
  • No screws in back. Completely sealed
  • The lights are jewels, not domes - Yellow Red and Blue
  • Size: 5"x3"x1.5"
Than you for your time,
Dylan

This is a Bill Blake communicator....He was an associate of Jim Kirk from Starfleet command..he used some of Jim kirks parts, then had others made, particularly his grid, which had larger holes and he also had his grids plated...He also used some sort of wardrobe / handbag accessories for his jewels...His control knobs were N scale trainwheels, and his earlier units had a tricorder graphic..This one is later with an upgraded graphic. These comms were sold at conventions and wholesaled to dealers throughout the mid to late 1980's ..for more info you can look at my free website: www.thecopycats.org..You can find this model under the Starfleet Command category dropdown under : "individual variation"

Hi Laser1959:
Thanks for helping track it down. I’d been on thecopycats.org, but not knowing what to look for missed it. I appreciate it very much!

You are quite welcome...Vintage TOS replicas are my specialty, hence creating my free website..I did forget to add that the Plastic shells and most likely the midplates are Jim Kirks on the vast majority of these made and sold.

Cool so that’s your site? Awesome! I kept looking for the pictures with the backs with no screws, the microphone plate whose holes were too big and the scanner pattern. The one you pointed out looked really close but with out the back view I wasn’t sure. Thanks for adding the detail on the maker, I like having all the details I can.
