Star Trek Picard Season Three

After being served nothing but cringe and disappointment for almost a decade, I have just sat back and enjoyed this Season of Picard.

It’s been an enjoyable romp and a fitting end for the TNG crew. I’ve actually looked forward to each week’s episode and am sorry to see it ending—which I NEVER thought would happen with this series.

I will give them a pass on all the ‘member berries, this season, as they support a great story.

Now…join me in the All Things Star Wars thread if you want to pile on about nostalgia nuggets vs. great storytelling…

I’m wondering who will die. Geordi won’t as Burton was on Whoopie’s show saying he’d love to do a spin off series.

I feel the same way.

Call it member berries all you want, but that last few minutes was beautiful. And that bridge set was just….perfect. Sometimes you see a recreated filming set and it will look pretty close but you’ll quickly notice an angle that’s slightly off, some small sizing difference. This was pretty damn close.

The bridge looked a bit off to me; the incline of the ramps down the sides of it was too steep. In one episode in TNG, Picard wiped the dust from the dedication plaque and it was eye level. In this episode of Picard, it was almost above his head! O,o

My opinion of modern Trek is pretty critical. The first two seasons of Picard are abysmal. I was going to skip this season entirely, but all the positive comments leading up to the premiere convinced me to give it a shot. And I enjoyed episode after episode. I had to suspend my disbelief in places, like with the ability to warp anywhere quickly. But I also found myself rewatching episodes, which I hadn't done since Deep Space Nine. There was something about this episode though that hit me hard. To see that ship and that bridge, it was like being pulled back to the early '90s when life was simpler. It was comfort food of the absolute highest quality, and I loved every second of it.

“If Adama was in charge of the fleet, this would never have happened”

And the moment I saw where they parked it…Sergeant Apone : Bay Twelve, please.

Hell, I just watched it for the third time. I am lapping this up like a dachshund with bacon-flavored syrup. Even with its (minor) flaws, this is the best Trek in decades.

They dealt with that by having Riker ask if it was just him or did the bridge look smaller.

Well, if you want to get really nitpicky the bridge of the D should include the expanded port and starboard stations seen when we last saw her in Generations…

But—I’ll let all of that go. At least it doesn’t look like the TOS bridge seen in Relics, which was full of inaccuracies.

It certainly did the job, though. Even the far more impressive set built for ENTERPRISE had its issues, too.

To be fair, the saucer did survive a high speed crash from orbit. IIRC, the plaque came off of the wall from the impact, so the original bolt (or whatever it was that held the plaque in place) probably broke off too, so Geordi was probably going from memory and placed it lower.

Don't bother trying to apply any logic or continuity to modern Trek, we know the writers don't. They just pump up the volume on the music, crank up the nostalgia to 11 and flash a load of easter eggs to paper over the rehashed stories and plotholes.
But the writers addressed it this season already.
