Star Trek Picard Season Three

Frontier day happens every year but this is a big anniversary apparently. The entire Starfleet is assembling in the Sol system, that's never happened before, thus unprecedented. It's also an incredibly stupid and dangerous idea in universe. We see Geordi complaining about how the higher up brass are ignoring his warnings. It's almost certain the highest ranking admirals have been replaced by changelings and are setting up the celebration for the attack.
It is indeed not only a ridiculously dumb idea but makes absolutely no sense in universe to recall every ship in the fleet which could be hundreds of lightyears away doing vital work such as evacuating colonies, dealing with sensitive border disputes, delivering urgent medical supplies to meet for this arbitrary event.

I enjoyed the episode overall, though I must say Amanda Plummer's overbroad performance was starting to get tiresome. Good wrap-up to Act II, now we're into the last act. I also enjoyed seeing the whole gang around the table in the briefing room again. That was very satisfying.

I agree on Plummer. There's only so much of her "Jean-Luc Picaaaaarrrgggh!" I can handle.

Loved Worf's interaction with Deanna in this episode. The look on Riker's face was priceless.

Re Jack Crusher's "superpowers".

The theory floating around seems to be Pah-wraiths, but in the terribly bad Season 2, there was someone else who had the ability to "possess" bodies, and the eyes of the possessed would change color. That person was not-Laris, supposedly a Watcher with the same job as Gary Seven. Could Jack be a Watcher in the making?

That's an interesting observation. It also ties into his half brother Wesley, who, as a Traveler, is the boss of the Watchers. And how do you do a TNG reunion without bringing back Wesley? But how that links up to the entity behind the door being evil, I don't know.

“Wesley The Traveler” dropping into season three like the proverbial turd in the punch bowl?

Watch them bring back Soran's Trilithium Missile and try to take out the Earth's Sun and Starfleet all in one shot.

Internal logic means nothing when it comes to an onslaught of references to past, long-faded glory.

No complaints from me regarding the latest episode (“Surrender”) other than…Captain Shaw was something of a coward in this episode.

…seeing the TNG crew all back, together, just makes it all the more clear what a loss the first two seasons were.

What could have been?

There was something really special about everyone being at that table again.

Totally worth it.

HOWEVER...
Teasing the reveal of whatever is going on with Jack at the end of the last episode AND this one really rubs my inner writer the wrong way.

I really think Shaw isn't the "boldly go" type; being a former engineer, he would probably be much more at home in charge of building starships than commanding them.

Really good episode. One of the things I disliked about Data's previous death(s) is that they ignored his relationship with Geordi in favor of connecting him to Picard. Which I understand, Picard definitely had a connection to Data, but not as much as Geordi. These latest episodes remedy that.

Regarding Data, it's strange that I accept Spiner's appearance as Data more now than in ST: Picard season 1. Trying to make him look like he looked 20 years ago, in his last appearance as Data in ST: Nemesis, ended up being distracting.

Maybe I'm more accepting now because I saw their attempt in season 1, so I realize that (unless they went the full deepfake route) there's no way to make Spiner look like the Data we remember. Letting him play the character as he looks now with minimal nods to the original look of Data (contact lenses, similar hairstyle) works for me.
