Star Trek Picard Season Three

I don’t think we’ll get a Sisko cameo, but I think it’s pretty likely we’ll get a visit to DS9. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw the female changeling. She should be in a Federation prison at this point.

This season is schlock, but it's highly entertaining schlock, so I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

With the benefit of distance, I can kind of sense that season 1 tried to have some substance; have some themes, have some ideas, explore morality -- you know, all the stuff we expect from Star Trek. It was just horribly incompetent about it. Season 3 has given up on that completely, but as long as it's entertaining I'll stick around.

I watched the last episode of the Ready Room with Jonathan Frakes and he talked about the conflicts between the main characters and that they were NOT allowed to do that during TNG and they loved being able to do that now. I'm not saying I liked that and really thought the conflict between Riker and Picard was a bit much but apparently they had a great time filming it.

and a lot of people making reference to Discovery, can we please refer to it by the official acronym, STD?
I’ve said it before. STD is the perfect acronym, because it’s painful to experience and embarrassing to talk about.

I don’t think that’s a fair characterization at all. “Schlock” is a word we reserve for Plan 9 From Outer Space, Groove Tube, Death Race 2000–IOW, movies that feature low (or no) production value and amateurish writing, and often contain cheap shocks or thrills. I wouldn’t even call Strange New Hair schlock, and I absolutely hate it. I would even argue that Romero’s first three Dead pictures are schlocky. But not Picard 3. You might think it’s bad, and you might make a good argument for it (and I would vehemently disagree), but that’s just not the right word.

with the involvement of the changelings, what are the odds we're going to get a Sisko cameo. All that "organic matter in the nebula" talk had me itching the great emissary might return somehow. Would be a great way to bring him back, at least for me, always loved his arc.
No way in hell that is gonna happen…..

Not unless they allow Avery Brooks to film all of his scenes sitting in front of his piano riffing….

I love Sisko, but Mr. Brooks is a unique soul, it seems.
I have had the pleasure of talking with him a few times, the first was when He was doing location shooting in D.C. for, “A Man Called Hawk” Series and he is truely a very unique individual.

You can thank his wife Vikki for his involvement with ”Trek” as he wanted no part of it, he is a jazz musician through and through and one cool hep cat!

I came across this video recently. Do you guys feel this is the correct assessment of Star Trek currently and if Terry is the right guy to lead Trek back to how good it was? Or do you feel this is all incorrect?

It’s far too soon to say “STAR TREK IS BACK!!”

Yes, the current season of Picard is certainly better than the first two seasons of the show—which is an extremely low bar to be measured against. The over-reaction to the change in the series as being the rescue of the entire franchise is a bit much…so far…

Picard is still a series full of modern (Nu) Star Trek tropes, member berries, easter eggs, elements taken from prior stories, inconsistent characterizations, clunky story telling, etc. But—yes, it is still better than seasons 1 and 2 and all of Discovery and Strange New Worlds.

And there is still the specter and stench of Secret Hideout hanging over the franchise.

No—Roddenberry Trek is not yet back. But, there is a small glimmer of hope that things could continue to get better. The cancellation of Discovery and changes to Picard may represent the start of a broader course correction.

The Popcast Guys, Robert Meyer Burnett, The Critical Drinker, Nerdrotic and Dave Cullen have apparently been granted early access to the complete season (probably on Robert's recommendation) and they've all heaped glowing praises on it proclaiming it as the return of Star Trek. So far based on the three episodes so far, I'm inclined to agree, although there's stll a bit of Kurtzman aftertaste (especially with Episode 3). All of them have said Episode 4 will be one of the best of the season so I'm looking forward to that.

Carrying the Crimson Tide homage further…when we last left the crew of the Titan, they were sinking into the gravity well and had lost all engines.

I expect this scene to be replicated at the start of next week’s episode…

Do you think Terry is the right way to go, since Season 3’s minor improvement is his doing?

I watched season 1 and 2 just to watch Mike Stoklasa lose his **** with Rich Evans… but I’m really enjoying this season and even going back and watching old TNG…

Now I’m not watching for the train wreck but just hoping it keeps it up and actually brings some joy to poor Mike and Rich… they need it

... and Chabon.

Well…while we’re at it, former Discover show runner Brian Fuller should be included in that group, as well, since he created a lot of the foundation for what was later produced…

Honestly, I don't think that's fair to Bryan Fuller. Based on what RMB has been saying, Fuller's original concept for Discovery would have been closer to the essence of classic Trek. Discovery was supposed to be an anthology series with a different crew and a different story for every season. I was made to understand that he left because of creative differences with Kurtzman. The mushroom network, the Klingorcs, the space-folding tardigrade, Burnham being Spock's sister, and that ridiculous fidget spinner saucer section are all Kurtzman.
