I first posted this in teh prop area but maybe better here. Need help!

Ok, not sure if this is even possible. I have the Next Gen one piece jumpsuit from Paramount studios costuming. I have the Playmates dolphin phaser and the tricorder. Is there a way they wore these on the uniform? I don't seem to remember a belt??? Help me all the experts. I need to get it right for a January event. Thx in advance.

The majority of the time, it was "hooked" (I don't know the actual term) on and was not a real prop, except when they had to take the prop out. The used velcro as well! But they made have had other methods as well. I have learned what I know simply from the books and the actual items they sold at auction.

And if you REALLY watch the movies and the TV show, oftentimes you they make the motion, and the sound effect starts, but you don't see them actually remove the prop from the "holster" as I call it. LOL. It was very clever of them.

But I know there are a few of us that have been looking for the holsters for a long time. If you try to put the heavy hero props in the holster, they bounce and jostle and look TERRIBLE when you walk around. But if you have a very light resin or "stunt" type prop, it looks great and doesn't bounce very much.

There was someone on ebay who sold the fake props inside the fake holsters, and they were static. All one piece, painted and looked great. I simply could NOT find photos right at the moment, but I am sure others here have them on file.

I suggest getting a fake one-piece prop that you can velcro or "hook" onto your uniform. Either way, keep us posted on the progress. :)

Good luck, and I am sure more people will chime in to help!

As I understand it, they were originally holstered on using velcro... however this resulted in the actors having to be very careful when they moved and even sometimes holding them while they were holstered on the uniform.

Eventually the velcro was replaced with alice clips... and I believe that happened by the second or third season.

The dolphin phaser is wrong for a TNG one-piece, unless it's a FC or Nemesis uniform. Then it would be worn in a holster and held onto the jumpsuit with military style alice clips.

Phaser and tricorder in vacuform plastic holsters, which are held onto the costume with "alice clips" as noted.

The exception would be the "cricket" or "keychain"phaser, which fits into a small pocket on the uniform. Part of the phaser sticks out. Theoretically the crew was always armed with these small phasers, but you rarely saw them.

For shots where the holstered props did not need to be pulled out by the actor, a lightweight foam rubber one-piece casting of the prop in the holster, was used instead.

Don't shame that costume with Playmates Tech! :lol

ok ok i know its not perfect, but dont have alot to spend on correct props. So that said, what would u suggest carrying or wearing prop wise with this costume? OH...I need to get the props quickly!

Well if you can vacform, get a sheet of black plastic, and make a holster! :)

Army Navy surplus shop will have Alice clips.

But if your costume is authentic screenused, I'd just leave it alone and go with no props, since Mole Rat is right, Playmates will deface the authenticity of your suit and cause shame and humiliation to be rained down on you. :sleep

That's pretty much what I was saying.....only nicer! :lol

I've never seen loops for "alice clips" on a TNG spandex uniform. Velcro is the only attachment method I've seen. Now that may have changed for the two-piece TNG male uniforms as loop could have been used.

I'm not sure about on TNG, but the one-piece jumpsuits for DS9 and VOY had loops sewn in for the holsters. The never showed up on screen as it was just the same black fabric on top of itself and they rarely did a shot close enough to see it, an never well lit enough.

The 1st season TNG through to DS9 used velcro up until the boomerang phasers were introduced.

There are some clips where you see Date stretching his tricorder pouch in the 1st and 2nd season of TNG. It looks like a leather material where as if you watch the episodes where the Cobra phaser and VII tricorder were used the pouches are a harder material covered with material. Some screen shots show the material stuck to it on the inside.
