Star Trek Into Darkness (Pre-release)

Oh, so true. And it wouldn't even need to take out it's shields in order to do.

Someone confirm this for me because I could swear on a stack of Linux Manuals that I hear the TIE Fighter's fly-by roar when the Klingon Fighter powered up to pursue.

That's at the 0:14 mark, right? I too can hear the feint sound of a tie-fighter doing a fly by, but it's very quick. At first I thought Ben Burtt throwing in his trademark sound design in a cameo like style, but than I saw that he wasn't involved in the making of this film.

I love some of the comments, if they KEEP posting clips from
the movie by the time the US get's it we will have already
seen it all...

HA !!!!!!

I have mixed feelings on this. But overall, I like it because it gives us a way to start over by tying JJ's to the original Trek. This was we get a fresh start, but are free to go to new places because of the timeline change.

But in a way, kind of like we have talked on MOS and Batman JD, they did hard reboots and you simply accept that the other universe doesn't count in this adaptation. I liked the new Star Trek, but part of me (even though I see why they did it) wishes they would have done it as an entirely new version of Star Trek.

Shatner should count his blessings.

I love Nimoy but Man he looked awful in the 09 Movie.

You're entitled to your opinion. But, I do feel that they got the spirit of Trek pretty spot on here... has JJ and his team made some mistakes? Yes... did they change the core essence of the characters? No, I don't think so... and yes, I realize that's debatable and up to personal interpretation. JJ's a much better filmmaker that Nolan... in my ever humble opinion.

In the filming aspect I totally agree JJ is much better. Much wider view of filming opposed to Nolan's fixation with sticking with only IMAX whenever possible. Story telling, I honestly don't know. It could go either way for me. I liked Nolan's take on Batman, but I also liked JJ's reboot of Star Trek. The joining two universes was my only real issue. The characters, I agree with either their protrayal were near spot on. Liked their choices in actors (except Chekov. Thought they could have done better then the kid from the frieght night remake). I think JJ can give a bit more imagination and wider view of a story in a shorter time. Nolan I think seems to need the time to think about his twists and surprises to pull them off. Another reason I'm glad they asked JJ to do Star Wars.

Willing to bet after JJ leaves Trek to go screw up Star Wars even more than it already is - Lindelof will be kept on Trek to develop the next movie as producer - and we'll being seeing Spock and Kirk taking on the Borg next trip out.

Personal interpretation time:

Kirk and Spock. Completely messed with them.

Kirk. No longer someone who has earned the respect of his crew. He's a cocky dick who got it right once. In TOS he was the youngest captain in Starfleet and got there by being the best over an exemplary career. In JJ Trek he's a punk out of school and I still don't understand why anyone listens to him.

Spock. Him being in a romantic relationship ruins his character. In TOS he resisted relationships, now with Uhura it's Pon Farr everyday! And his reason for resisting in TOS makes itself perfectly clear because he allows her to affect his judgement.

Not to mention that the Enterprise is no longer a crew of professionals exploring space, it's a bunch of cadets... :thumbsdown

Yea, Kirks has crossed the line from being a confidant leader, to an annoying, reckless jerk. Certainly not someone they would put in command of a starship. (Or a 7-11 for that matter)

The difference being that in TOS, Kirk had already been the captain for however long when we first see him. In the new Trek, when we first see him, yes, he's a cocky dick, but by the end of the movie he has matured (imo, ik yours is different) into the Kirk that can be respected as a Captain who cares for his crew. Are all his flaws corrected by the end of the movie? Not at all, and they are touching on that in Into Darkness from what I can tell.

As for Spock, I agree that having him in a relationship with Uhura was a bad decision, I thought it was stupid. That was my one gripe with his character in the new Trek.

Completely disagree. there is nothing in the first Trek that indicates that he should be respected. In TOS his history is documented, exemplary service as an officer before he gets command. Even on his first day respect is earned for what he's already done. He didn't win all those awards as captain of the Enterprise.
