Star Trek Beyond (Post-release)

Just out from a midnight screening in HK. I enjoyed it.

People may hate the Enterprise (if it's got the name I will like it regardless of timeline) but the amount of screen time devoted to its demise - don't think this is a spoiler cos everyone is aware of this - is glorious and twisted at the same time. Hardcore for hardware is the only way to describe parts of this movie.

It was quite the send-off for NCC-1701. And the time-lapse at the end of the movie will drive ship lovers crazy when the blu-ray arrives. Lovely tribute to the original crew too. For me, the three leads did a fine piece of work in a perfect popcorn movie.

I'm going to see it, but things have definitely been dumbed down. ST used to give us Shakespeare and Mozart. Now we get Beastie Boys and Rihanna.

Idoacracy in motion.....or however you spell it ;o).

when you don't have to try anymore with nerd properties, because the masses like it now.....why bother?

Starts out good, dull in the middle good at the end. Was kinda just alright with me. Really liked the first two.
There are literally 6 or 7 times where they are in trouble and one of them says things along the lines of, "Wait but if we reverse the thrusters and splice the molecules and connect this to this and feed all power to exhaust it could work". They just threw out big words that didn't make sense to further the plot and it seemed lazy.

But overall it was pretty good.

Mom saw an advance screening last night (I was supposed to go with, but I was feeling too sick), and she said it was better than the first two, and she wants it on DVD. She did think that Sulu's orientation was to honor Takei, though. I had to correct her that he wasn't happy with it.

Currently at 93% on RT,. Oh, 94% for the TOP CRITICS because people like to use that as a measure instead.

Just one comment, because I think it does need to be pointed out: Rotten Tomatoes is really not a good indicator of quality, especially not in the case of Trek:

Consider that, according to RT, ST (2009) and First Contact are better than Wrath of Khan, with Into Darkness right behind it.

still waiting for a new Star Trek movie..........................

seriously.............was better than into darkness but still not good.
lots of callbacks from the original series but everyone from the old series
should be rolling in their graves watching this..........(yes i know they arent all dead....
after watching this, they probably wish they were).....

BRING ON THE NEW CBS SERIES! (or prelude to anaxar if its ever finished)

Definitely better than Abrams films.
At this point I feel like the slowest trek film will be the best trek film. I loved the fact that th enterprise was wrecked so early on. It loosened up the film a bit.

The macguffin was ridiculous. I still don't understand why the bad guys needed it. Frankly, their force was already more destructive than the borg.

The great thing about this movie was that it felt like a space exploration adventure. The worst thing about it was that it still felt like they were defending earth at the end. (Basically they were)

Better than the previous two, but still not Star Trek.

Me: oh, good, they're building another one, here's their chance to not make it ugly this time.

.....

sigh

Well, they made it a lot better in most ways, but way worse in another.

Sadly the nacelles attach to the upright parts right at the front of them. It looks terrible. BUT they are more spread apart. Which is good

Was anyone else confused by this ultimate weapon? How was it any more effective than his own attack force?

Just seen it, and it was great, I am 46 years old, saw the original series, and all the series that followed it, and all the films, and this is star trek, no matter how many people who tell you it isn't.

The Spock McCoy relationship was spot on, as was Spock's use of colourful language.

Everything that they showed in the trailer that put people off out of context worked beautifully in the context of the movie.

I think in time the when the people that chose not to see this at the cinema eventually do see it, they will regret their decision.

I agree.

Of course nobody can tell another what to like. But I think if one doesn't listen to that voice in their head which tells them they ought to expect to hate this, and instead they just watch it... I believe they will see what we see.

The thing that impressed me the most with this one was the inter-character relationships. They really spent time on those, and i thought the characterizations--already well done up this point--really hit the mark this time round.

I'm ready for Four...!

Dodged the bullet last night by screening TNG ,"Best Of Both Worlds" and "Family" last night.

Now my girlfriend saw the first two JJ movies but never saw any of the Series.

She loved the TNG episodes especially "Family" and thought they were way better than those Abominations she had earlier viewed.

Took my Horgahn off the shelf and showed her what that implied gotta Screen that one for her tonight as she could'nt believe Trek would do that! :lol

did they show enough of the new ship to make it feel like it's an actual design this time?

something most hollywood people don't seem to know how to do anymore?

Actually RT is a very good indicator of quality as its a broad aggregate of professional critical review. As such it's far better and less subjective then one person saying "This movie sucks" which is entirely subjective. Then there is Cinescore which is an aggregate of viewer reactions, where this film is at A-.

So regardless of what noisy "real fans" who claim some ownership over what is or is not Trek say, this film and the other two in this universe have been very well received in general and are great fun. I realize that is difficult for some to accept but it is the truth none the less. Just because the conclusion is contrary to any one persons opinion is immaterial.

On of the things that made me like the first part of this film was that there were a lot of slow shots of the enterprise. It almost had a motion picture feel to it.

Quick question about the new Enterprise A. Is the engine room still just a factory somewhere to save on building a decent and well thought out one? Or do we not see that yet?

Bomojo is estimating 60 mil for opening weekend :eek YIKES :eek

Looks like even the youngsters are getting tired of the Franchise and that is not good
