Star Trek agonizer prop replica

I am making an agonizer and in my research saw something that I am not sure of. Am I seeing it correctly in the area indicated that there is a space between the underside of the prop and the countertop? As many times as I have seen replicas of this I have always seen them sanded flat across the bottom. In these pics it looks like the flippers(as I seem to like calling them) are holding the prop up at an angle.

Re: TOS agonizer

somewhere on the interweb are ,IIRC, some pictures of the original prop taken against a tape measure. I think I may have them at home. I can't remember where I saw them though? RACprops possibly?

I definitely remember that the 'flippers' are lower than the main body, as you suspect. I'll see if I can find them.

Re: TOS agonizer

FWIW, on my Rodd.com agonizer replica, the 'claws' do angle back from the body of the device, so that when resting on a flat surface, the body is elevated 3/8" above the tabletop. Functionally, that's how I've always envisioned this device as well; something like a handheld continuous function tazer with the current being applied through the two claws.

Hmm, I always thought it would have been through the center and not the flippers. I don't think the business side was ever shown so I was going to use some artistic license on mine. Somebody here made a pretty spiffy version that looked like it could have been used in STIII for the Klingons. I wouldn't mind getting a copy of that one.

What a great episode that was in!

I was thinking more of it's use by Klingons. Interesting how Spocks hair in that Shat Attack has one texture from behind and changes to another from the front. :lol

Re: TOS agonizer

Although I have only ever seen one original. It is my understanding that there were two types. One with a totally flat back and one with the angle you are seeing. Both had velcro hook on the back side.

Re: TOS agonizer

The pictures I saw were definitely on Mr. Coyle's site:

RACprops - Issue 6 - mirror mirror.

I'd like to know if any real ones were made totally flat. I'm going to guess that the totally flat ones came about in repros so that someone could cheese out and do it the easy way with an open face mold instead of a 2 part mold. To think for years I thought the "flippers of unrelenting pain" were flat along with the bottom of the piece.

This is the image they have at Memory Alpha. At least here, the charge is coming out of the claws. (I'm sorry, I just can't call them flippers!) Admittedly, it's added CGI and not what we originally saw, but still...

Re: TOS agonizer

Look for caps from Day of the Dove, you might see some of the background ones on the Klingon belts.

Re: TOS agonizer

Has anyone done the metal holster (not really a clip) for it? I remember seeing it on the belt right before they use it on Kyle. I can see the grooves for it in the pics above.

Good observation!

I'll bet the holster worked the same way as the proton gun Dixie cup clip. Not to say you can use a Dixie cup clip, just works on the same priciple. Logans Run sandman gun works in a similar fashion as well.
