As a make up artist he inspired myself be the best i could at this craft.
Around the world we will greive his passing.
But i will continue to hounor his memory by carring on.
He and thoese before him have the laid the path that well travel on to create and entertain the child in all of us.

:) :) :D ;) I am truley saddened by this. I have followed this guys work ever since I was a kid.I loved his creations and was blown away by all of his creativity. I had the priviledge to meet him last year and was able to get him to take pictures of Art & Gene. Then I came back 5 minutes later and asked if he would mind signing a P1 bio......he said "I'd love too" ****paused for a moment**** then said "this looks great, like it just came out of the mold". He seemed tickled and to glow a little when he saw what fans we were and two guys in Predator suits to show there appreciation. It just so happened that Scott (Bovine) and I came around again and the autograph area where they were all signing for the movie Skin Walkers (movie that Stan worked on) was wrapping up.I did the 30 yard hurdle dash and was able to catch him.He remembered me from a little earlier and said "Your the predator guys," I said Yes,Im a huge fan and just wanted to say thank you for everything you have done as a creature effects artist and an innovator for the industry, you have a lot of admirable fans out there and you have done just brilliant work ." He was very grateful and couldnt have been a nicer gentlemen.Just a guy that was very humble and a guy with alot of class.Im very very fortunate to have met him and to tell him thank you.......you will deeply be missed Mr. Stan Winston.......the man...the myth the legend we have all come to know and love and admire. R.I.P STAN.

WOW.....It seems to me that there are no lines to put in writting what i am actually feeling....meeting this HEROE was one of the greatest things that ever happened to me. i attended the comicbook convention in LA to have my book sign by him. i was in costume for about 4hrs and did not care aboout the heat or the miserable feeling of wearing a full predator head, i was gonna meet Stan n have my book sign.
I was all by my self, family could not go w/me that day. it was hard to walk around in the suit ALONE. When i got the chance to see Stan i could not believe how humble and personable this guy was. I will never forget his words. ""THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE IN COSTUME (i was the only one yeah!!!)AND FOR HONORING MY CREATION. YOU DID A GREAT JOB,!!!! AND IF THIS IS WHAT YOU LIKE DOING GO TO SCHOOL .!!!""
I am so thankful i got the chance to meet Stan Winston.
This time going to SDCC will be a little too sad. He won't be there to take the picture WE ALL WANTED. We have a huge responsability fellow hunters Honoring his creation @ SDCC 2008.

R. I. P. Stan Winston 1946-2008

Heres something to think about, despite how sad it is that the worlds one of the best has passed, which really sadens me/

look what he has left behind, places like this, the Hunters Lair.
If it wasnt for people like Stan Winston it probably wouldnt exist.
Think also this, if not for Stan, we all here probably wouldnt know each other and this place wouldnt have started.

Really shows me two things, what a great guy he was and the effect he had on people as this is one of the best forums Ive ever been part of. So when you grieve for Stan, remember, we are probably all here in some way thanks to his genius.

When you think of it, its a pretty great legacy isnt it.

To use an Aussie expression "Your a bloody legend Stan" , and thanks for everything mate rip....

Hope you guys understand what Im getting at.

Steve

I just got off the phone with family friends of the Winstons. Most people did not know that Stan was ill for some time now. When I visited him at his studio back in October, he was in another remission. Previous to that he had cancelled some appearances for signings of the "The Winston Effect" this was due to his cancer. He had been up and down for some time but was doing very well throughout the winter. About six weeks ago he fell while working on his new house. He fractured his pelvis and it was pretty much down hill from there. His type of cancer makes the healing process very difficult. On top of that it had enterd his lungs...this only happens to a very small percent of those suffering from multiple myeloma. I had been in contact with his Daughter Debbie ( my family friend's best friend and the person who set up my meeting with him) over the past few months. They had hoped for the best, but he was in much pain. I just went through the exact same scenario with my Grandmother last week. She passed last thursday of the exact same disease and exact same circumstance. My heart goes out to the Winston family. They are wonderful people that were extremely gracious. I spent a day touring the studio playing with all kinds of cool stuff and getting to hold Stans Academy awards as he told me stories about his close friend Arnold Shwarzeneggar. It will be an experience I shall never forget for the rest of my life. I remember when I was leaving, he thanked me for being a fan and wished me well with my own film work....I couldnt believe that he was thanking ME after giving me the experience of a lifetime. I know I posted pics of my trip there on an old post....I'll try and find some more of that day to pay tribute to him. Wow....I'm still in shock. From what I know, they are going to have a service for him on Sunday....usually in Jewish tradition the body is to be buried 48 hours after death, but due to the expected turn out they are waiting until the weekend. If I hear any more I'll be sure to post.

Carl...if you want to orchestrate something from the Lair to the family, I'll see if I can get it to Debbie. pm me and we can go from there

RIP Sir....

Its all real. I can't believe it. Its Ironic that Stan passed on Father's Day cuz he was the Father of FX & to us all kids who love to have a father like him.

I made my first Fiberglass cast yesterday, I dedicate it to Stan Winston because if it wasn't for him I wouldn't even know about special effects. Stan is the father of FX make-up, he gave people like Steve Wang, Tom Woodruff and Alec Gillis in ADI their chance to do FX which further influence and inspire us all to do what we all love to do today.

Stan, We love you and prayers to your family.

I just recieved an email from a friend about this. Had no idea....kinda feels like a sucker punch out of the blue like that. The man created some of my favorite creature effects ever. And seemed such an awesome guy to boot...Just so sad. Geez man, feels almost like losing a favorite uncle or something....
