SS Narcissus & other ship from Aliens

saw this ship and just love it's design. Anyone know the name of this ship (not the Narcissus)?

This ship looks like it would be a fun SS build. The tail looks like it's from a Jet airplane model (both half's). Anyone else recognize any model parts?

Here is the Narcissus too:

The Halcyon is the only kit, to the best of my knowledge. Have a search on eBay... there's also one being built/painted to order... :)

Any info on that photo of the Narcissus? I'd like to know if it's supposed to be the original model, and when it was taken.

I took the photo this past week from the Seattle Science Fiction Museum where the plaque reads that it is an original SS Model from the Movie. It's the only one I got, sorry.

Which movie? They had to make a new model for Aliens because they couldn't find the original at the time, and there are differences.

I am by far NOT an expert here, but it looks a lot like the big resin one that Was talked about on here quite some time ago. I recently finished a nealry yeear long build of that and it looks identicle. I do not know the prevenence of the source of the giant kit I had, I'm just saying...................Also, and I hate to pick nits, but the plaque says it is "a MODEL OF the ship used in the film". Nowhere does it say it was the original. I could be wrong. Just my .02 cents.

If someone could get a shot from the underside of the nose I could tell you if it is an original or not. I own a few pieces that were "liberated" from it along time ago. And the color is very dark. The first "Alien" version was very light in color.

The plaque reads:
"Model of the spaceship Narcissus used in the film Aliens, 1986 ...from the Paul Allen Family Collection"

I am sure it's not a play on words, the museum was pretty good at stating weather a certain item was a reproduction or fan made. But I am not an expert either.

Hmmm

Look familiar??

The one in ALIEN was SHORTER and SQUATTIER.

Looked very different than the ALIENS One.

If the one in the Museum is Acrylic, then its real. If not, its NOT.

Its that simple.

The one in Alien (IIRC) was nicknamed Miss Piggy because it was forced perspective model. Very different from the Aliens one.

I looked closely at the one at the SFM. Looked like a casting to me. Since so many knock offs exist of that, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a copy. But not everything there claims to be original, so I am not knocking them for that.

Narcissus miniature used in ALIEN. (the top two might be the fullsize set fot the last scene, not sure)

^ I believe the B&W pics are the fullsize.

Apart from the bluescreen pic, all the color ones are only half of the model. I think THAT was the forced perspective one, for a shot of it docked or something (note the wall around it). I don't believe the model of the entire ship (bluescreen shot) was forced perspective.

Absolutely Treadwell, the black & white shots from Martin Bower's website are of the full size mock-up of the rear of the ('Alien') Narcissus that was hung from the studio roof for wire stunts with Eddie Powell.

The colour shots of the front portion of the ship are also from Alien and are of the forced perspective 'Miss Piggy' version. The interior footage was played back on TV screens placed behind the cockpit windows and the shorter version was made so that the front of the ship, the screens and the surround were all in focus.

There's a misnomer regarding the bluescreen photo above; I've seen a version of that photo referred to as showing the Miss Piggy model because it looks short & stubby. 'Alien' was filmed in anamorphic format so the model would appear distorted on the film stock, it's only when it's projected through an anamorphic lens that the model looks the correct proportions.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anamorphic_format

I asked about the 'Aliens' Narcissus in the first post here because Jason Joiner claims to have the original model. I've seen it and it does appear to be made of what could be acrylic sheet etc. and has a steel box-section understructure (the top & side panels are missing). I'm wondering if the one at Seattle is a casting of that, similar to those that some folks already have.

He Probably does.

Because I was told it Was JJ who said he Molded and Sold the copy that was later rotocast in MASS.

Bob Burn was also told he was getting that prop, and it was "stolen" before he ever got it. Even bringing up the subject of it, tends to upset Bob quite a bit.
