i keep seeing all these really cool custom eyes people make for spiderman masks and they look amazing. but i really dont have the money or the time to sit and make a proper set or to buy a good set. i decided to see what i could come up with my self. these where made from a piece of mesh material i got from a craft shop for £1.99 and a plastic bottle from some vimto i drank the other day it was £0.79 and some left over foam i had from my last iron mad suit. the mesh was glues onto the plastic from the bottle which was cut to the shape i liked then i just cut some foam to the right size and cut out a centre whole and painted the foam black. stuck it on and wala oh also spray painted the mesh gold before sticking it on. i can see through them really well now i just need to make the mask :). what you guys think if wanted i could make a youtube tutorial on how i done it

If the foam wasnt so piecey around the inside of the eye id say they were almost perfect. Very well done.

hey man thanks very much they foam around the eyes could be done allot better but i used a really old craft knife its going dull from allot of use. i need new blades. but with a fresh craft knife that wouldn't be an issue it would be really smooth

Once upon a time, before everyone got caught up trying to make everything 100% accurate, a good number of Spidey eyes were made using this exact method. As you noted, the trick is having sharp, fresh blades.

Somewhere I have a set of Raimi-Style frames I made back in 2003 or so using this technique.

Keep on honing and refining and I have no doubt that you can get damn close to the right shape and look. When you're done just hit the frames with a coat of plastidip to really make them pop and you'll have a great set of lenses for a bargain basement price.

Good luck.

nice job, I made similar lenses for my spidey mask made from black foam and reflective window tint, it looked great but after about ten minutes of having the mask on the lenses fogged up and I could barely see a thing out of them, it sucked. Nothing more unimpressive then a blind spiderman LOL
