I noticed on the mask, there are some incomplete webbing lines. Are those indicators for placing the eye frames? I placed one of my frames and lined it up. Looked accurate to me.

Indeed the weblines are missing there because of the placement of the eyes. You need them a bit lower and closer to the center, however. Look at images from the film for reference.

Okay so the plan for the mask is:

- Curve the Raimi frames and glue them onto the lycra mask with the lenses as well
- Cut out eye holes on the lycra mask
- Make eye holes for the face shell
- Put the face shell underneath the lycra mask

That should be it, correct?

Okay so here's the latest development:

- Made bigger eye holes on the face shell
- Since I won't be applying the webbings anytime soon, I decided to draw on the suit to darken the lines (took a page out of Lunaman's book).

This was what I accomplished with a power drill for the eyeholes.

After being frustrated, I called up a friend to help me out. You can find him at "Dang Paddles" on Facebook. He carves wooden paddles.

Anime Expo ended yesterday. My suit was about ready on Saturday morning until something went wrong.

We super glued the eye lenses onto the eye frames (pics were taken today):

After that, we super glued the frames onto the lycra mask (the face shell was underneath the mask with the styrofoam head wearing it). After this was done, we took the head out and proceeded to cut eye holes out of the lycra. This is where it went wrong.

The mask was lined up wrong as well since it was glued onto the face shell underneath.

I really wanted to wear the suit so I decided to cut the face part of the lycra mask off and bought a luchador mask to wear it over my head. Three people asked for pics. A handful of other people asked where I got the suit from and how much it cost me. There were a lot of name calls as well (Nacho Libre Spider-Man was my favorite). It was very fun wearing the actual suit at a convention. I had a great time and would love to do it again. Just gotta fix the mask problem. I do have a spare but that needs to be sewn together.

This was the luchador mask I bought and worn:

Even though the suit isn't exactly completed with all the webbing applied, it still looks awesome. The darkened webbing lines make it a lot better than how it was when I first got it.

I am aware that I probably could have saved the eyehole problem by using bigger eye frames to cover up the mishap (Amazing Spider-Man 2 style frames maybe?)

Just use the spare mask you have. Have it sewn up, cut the old one off right along a webbing line on the neck and sew on new one. With some careful work, once the webbing is applied you'd never be able the tell. You need to think through the process numerous times, before gluing or cutting anything.

Woof, man, sorry to hear about the mishap. Glad you were able to have some fun with it for the time being. The luchadore mask is a very funny way to make the best of the situation right before a con.

As usual, Brad's the expert--his advice above is right on the money. Lucky you've got that extra mask, man.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

I'm definitely gonna do some more homework before touching the super glue. The mask work was done at the very last minute and most of it was guess-timation and improvisation.

I'll post a couple pics of the suit with the darkened lines and the lycra mask with the face part cut out tomorrow.

Here's how the suit looks with the darkened lines. I used Pigma Micron pens 05 and 08 (05 for the legs/head and 08 for the upper body). Overall I would prefer using the 08 pen for all lines since it's enough to do the job with a few swipes and not get messy.

This is the head at its current state:

The next step right now is to sew the spare mask up and buy another pair of lenses.

Where did you buy the face shell? I'm trying to make a Scarlet Spider cosplay, and I thought buying one of those toy spiderman masks at Wal-mart would help. I bought it to so I could easily glue my Scarlet Spider eyes on the mask, cause then I could take out the toy mask and just put on the mask without a shell. Opinion?

InuzukaLegend, DONT buy the walmart toy!!! its very large and its width is too large, a guy on Ebay buys them all from the walmart by his house, sands them down and takes all the "light/toy elements off" paints them and sells them for $80!! terrible!!! the toy costs $12-$20!!!!! anyway moral of the story is NOT to get the toy for a shell it looks terrible....ill see if i can find a picture.
BTW: i am also making a Scarlet Spider Cosplay, I'm almost done i made my web shooters, got the face shell, lenses, (Spider Tracers from Goose!) ankle pouches, shoes, glue, hoodie, just waiting on my belt and suit to come in! id make a thread but I'm not allowed yet, you can PM for pictures and stuff.
