Is Mel Brook dying, and this is just his last joke on us?
I won’t get any sequel jokes If they do them. I don’t know those movies and never will.
I can't stop laughing at the text scroll. This is exactly what the world needs right now after the last 20+ years of steaming, ruined franchises and whatnot. Fingers crossed Pullman and Moranis are in it at least. (I'd almost put money on Mark Hamill playing President Scroob's son...)

As I said in the funny pics thread, making any sequel so many years is tricky, and a lot never can recapture the magic of the first. I mean, a lot of sequels on a year or two later can't even capture that magic.
Mel Brooks is pretty funny, so hopefully it works.
I guess when its time to go watch it, just go in with very little expectations.

I just saw that he turns 99 in like two weeks. They better hurry and film his parts NOW.....otherwise, that IS the joke....and it just never gets finished.

OK, I may be in the minority here... but to me, Spaceballs was MILDY entertaining at best. It wasn't a run away theatrical release, and wasn't one of Brook's better films,. More satire than comedy, and definitely grounded in the 1980s. While it had its moments, it really doesn't deserve a sequel, neither should it have one. It would be a parody of a parody.
Besides, they already tried the animated Spaceballs TV show, which bombed pretty fast.

Yeah, the trailer is fibbing a bit in that regard.
Spaceballs is a lot fun but it's from an era where his films were waning in quality. Relatively speaking, after his one-two punch of 1974. And I feel High Anxiety is underrated.
But look at the other comedies that came out in '87. Spaceballs is heads above most.

From what I've read, Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis are set to return and reprise their roles as Lone Star and Dark Helmet. Other cast members include Bill Pullman's son and Josh Gad. While Mel Brooks is also set to return as Yogurt, he won't be involved in the writing or directing of the sequel, it's supposed to have 2 or 3 writers, one of whpm is Josh Gad..
While the involvement of Mel Brooks being limited to playing Yogurt, and maybe being one of the producers, doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence, I'm willing to give this movie a chance. I'm hoping that Brooks will at least have final say over the script and can have it rewritten if he's not happy with any of it.
