Here I am on the eve of starting a couple of WH40k Space Marine builds. My main question is what materials would be best for the build? I don't have any real access to a vaccuforming machine or anything much beyond basic power and hand tools. I found crypto's build thread (found here) and like the idea of the pep, fiberglass, and foam but I'm worried about weight since these are going to be worn for several hours. I also saw the thread started by thorssoli (found here) and absolutely love the way his turned out but, alas, I don't have the resources at my disposal that he does. That brings me to using craft foam sandwiched between Worbla and/or Wonderflex but I have no experience with it so I'm not really sure how to work with it but I've heard that it's easy to work with and I like the idea that I could make a mold and use it to make both suits. However, I've read that larger pieces start to sag so that has me somewhat concerned.
I know that this is an ambitious build, especially for my first, but I'm quite adept at building and crafting things (I crafted some of my own armor for a middle ages recreation group) I'm hoping to draw off of the vast experiences here on TRPF to help me get off on the right foot since I don't have a lot of money. I have enough for the projects but I don't want to waste any if I can avoid it. Thanks in advance for the information.
Edit: The time frame for this is next August for DragonCon 2014 and possibly ComiCon if it's done earlier.
