funny thought,
are the Space 1999 suits the same as the ones worn by the aliens in the UFO series with Straker. kinda remind me of them. Both British, maybe passed on props.

Just a curious thought, it appears to me the black capsule shapes are recessed or cut out of the visor instead of applied markings. Is this based on other information or a intentional choice?

Very jealous of the suit by the way. One of my all time favorites and fantastic work all around.

Those are stickers on it. On the show, the ones on the back of the helmet is tape, but on the visor they are cuts in the frame. For the frame, it's just a choice on this one since it will be just sitting in my office. This one was really the mold for making the helmets. The frames on the others will be cut out.

Thanks for the comments guys! This is my all-time favorite suit!

Franz, pics will be coming soon with the complete suit.

I can field that one! :)

The short answer is, "no". The Space 1999 orange suits are not the same as the alien suits on "UFO", which look like this:

However you're right, space suits and other hardware DO get reused on different productions. The 1969 film "Doppelganger" (known as "Journey to the Far Side of the Sun" in the US) was made by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson... this film featured distinctive silver space suits with orange helmets, black straps, and an over-the-shoulder control unit.

These suits were later used on "UFO", but with yellow helmets and accessories.

Finally one of the helmets turn up on "Space:1999" in the episode "Mission of the Darians" (the rest of the suit, and the entirety of the second suit, are from another film called "Moon Zero Two")

Just to make things MORE confusing, in the second season of Space 1999 we do get an occasional SILVER version of the normally orange space suit... these silver suits are supposedly fire fighting or anti-radiation suits.

Darthwalls,

It was a pleasure to meet you ar Dragon Con!

Absolutely fantastic work on the Space 1999 Flight Suit!

Maybe you can address how you engineered the suit to stay cool while wearing it?

Attached is a preview pic for those who are foaming at the mouth waiting for the official pics!

Yes Im curious too as I have decided this will be the next costume I am going to work on. Fantastic job!!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys! It was great to meet everybody and be able to visit with you! This was my first D-Con and I had a blast! Maybe next year we can have a group of eagle pilots to march in the parade!
Well, to stay cool in the suit, this is what I have ordered,
http://www.coolsport.net/index2.html
but since I didn't have it in time for D-Con, I used some cold wraps found at Wal-Mart by the ankle/wrist wraps. They kept me rather cool in the suit, except for when they thawed out they sagged because all the liquid ran down. Hence the "rolls" above my belt and resting on my commloc in the above pic. I also put CPU fans in the helmet and a smaller cold pack in the top. Over all, I was quite comfortable while wearing the full suit for up to ten hours. When I do my next suit, I do plan on using a thinner batting to help make it even cooler.

Well if I can work out something with you I am going to dragoncon next year and i would love to march with this costume. I still can't believe how awesome of job you did.

You've done an amazing job on this costum!!!

Quick question, is the Bell Star 120 the exact model for the helmet, or would similar models work? I've seen other Bells that look like the Bell Star 120 but dont have the snaps over the eyes, would they work?

PHASE PISTOL,

Thanks for the info.
you sure brought back memories when you mentioned "Moon ZeroTwo"
and "Doppleganger"
Doppl, was a pretty good movie for its time, it had a story that was a head trip. an opposite Earth.
Just remember......

THE POLARITY STAYS THE SAME.....:lol
