Sound From Props

Hi guys,

I've seen a few kits on the net that include something to make sound effects that you install and it just works.

I was wondering how to make such a thing yourself with your own sound effects for different props without massive speakers sticking out of them. Are there any books or anything like that on how to do this?

I got hold of some cheap mp3 players you can program a sample to then use a small single chip amp to add audio, and a small speaker and you have it.
