I'm creating this thread so members can follow and join in on the build of the Custom Sonic Screwdriver Contest 2012.

I've made a few simple changes to the design of the head and neck to make it MUCH easier for Rassilon to build. At least I think it will be easier now.

Tonight I created a test animation so you can see how the head fits together. All this is subject to change based upon Rassilons critique of course. I'm just trying to make it easier for him and help myself figure this out.

Here's the link

I was playing around and tried out different looks to the sonic. from left to right they are

- Steampunk (lots of brass and wood)
- 11th Doctor
- 9th & 10th Doctor

Which one do you guys like? Or if there is another style you'd like me to try.

Well aren't you fancy! :lol

As for styles I think your design would look nice with a simpler colour scheme. Closer to a Baker Sonic but with extra bells & whistles.

OK, to kick this build of I have started with the display brass ID plate, I had this template completed about a week ago, but not finished until I new who the winner was.

Next will be to start on the 3D cad drawings that is required before I do any mill or lathe work.

Same here, its one of the things that really grabbed my eye. That and the more you look the more elements of every sonic incarnation you can find along with a few things that stand alone. It really is a fantastic synthesis.

I prefer the original colors. I prefer the classic series design sonic screwdrivers. It just looks a lot more tool like. To be fair the 11th Doctor one looks more tool like to me too. It's just my opinion...

This should be a great thread!!!! Awesome design. I have to admit, I do really like that Steampunk version (You need to keep the black elements in there though). I think you should go with your original design though, that looks great. That thing is going to be a bear to machine :lol.

That seems to be what I do I guess.

I always wanted to redesign the screwdriver to go along with the update I did the console room redesign I did in early 2002. This contest gave me the perfect chance.

Not to get too far off topic but you might have seen it before but I'll post a few images here that I posted on the TARDIS Builders site
