Some SW props up for auction at Christie's (UK) December

I have read through everything in this thread and this is the most asinine and ignorant statement I think I have ever seen posted on the RPF.

I work in a test lab facility and quite often have to have paint samples analyzed for age, content, additives, etc. Most test labs charge less than $100 depending on the services requested. UL (Underwriters Laboratories) being one of our best resources for paint testing could complete this simple analysis in a weeks time or less if need be, and well within the price quoted above. Beyond just paint, UL can provide analysis for the resins and glass fiber components to date the helmet as well. I haven't had to price this as we work mostly with wooden components at my work, but it is most certainly possible.

So call me NASA if you wish. Next time actually do a little research if you have a suggestion.

Slasher, I'll be happy to provide you with paint samples for an analysis - just let me know what you need from my end. I have absolutely no problem to publish the results of such an analysis. As I said many times before, I have nothing to hide (as others constantly do).

Additionally, I invite everyone to compare my dome in detail to original screen-used domes such as the Paul Allen ESB stunt and the ScreenUsed ESB or any other original screen-used helmet. It's just to prove that it is a production-made piece made with the exact same materials and fabrication methods like the screen-used ones.

Re. Chrisitie's: yes, I have approached Christie's for an estimation of my helmet dome. My home insurance company asked me for a "reliable" third party estimation of my prop collection, so that they can evaluate the exact insurance fees I would have to pay. Of course I was curious to hear how they value the dome. There might also be a chance that I put it up for auction in the next couple of years - after my research about the true origins of this helmet are completed, and I am able to supply the buyer with solid provenance about when it was made, who made it and for what purpose.

Just hit you up with a PM. I will definitely look into running some tests for you.

With any luck this will finally put the issues with the helmet origin date to bed.

For what it's worth I completely trust vadermania's assessment of his helmet because he's handled originals on more than one occasion. The fiberglass pattern inside the dome matches that of the Paul Allen ESB stunt helmet and that was what prompted me to also bid on the helmet when it was on ebay. There are so many indicators that suggest this was from the production. But from what mold or what purpose needs to be established for certain. From what I've seen of it I trust that it was made during the production. Nothing is absolute but that's why vadermania is continuing research on it. I look forward to the paint/resin analysis results. That to me is what the hobby is about, studying these fine pieces to learn more about how they came to be. It is not about being the best. It is about enjoying the hobby.

Just an update from the UK Sunday Mirror of all places.

The C3PO hand up for auction was donated by George Lucas to The Friends of The Joffrey Ballet to raise funds in 1989. It has remained with the successful bidder since then. Estimate of £4000-£6000.
