Some Recent work on MAN OF STEEL Movie accurate suit .

Is this a shot from the movie? He looks smaller in it or is it just the angle?!

It's amazing the distortion a camera lens can make, isn't it? That's just a behind-the-scenes shot (I think a still from the bonus features).

Re: Some Recent work on MAN OF STEEL Movie accurate suit .

Here are some shot that with my Chrome MARK II helmet , under the sunlight . The Dark Texture made it looks a bit purple color , so im afraid if i go with the dark texture color , it will make the suit looks purple . As for the blue texture , it will looks too plain as the texture were same color with the fabric .

Let me know what do u think . What if i try the blue but add about 10% Darker BLUE ??
It's looking good, the darker mail option is better, maybe it could use a hint more of blue. I'm not seeing much in the way of purple, what I AM seeing is it looking close to the appearance of the screen-used costume. The raised texture on the real suit is very dark, almost a grey/black in certain light, as if it was printed once in a dark neutral color and then given a subtle gloss coat of blue.

This next image is a close-up of the screen-used suit fabric and mail, found by Jordy, that gets across some of what I'm trying to say:

In person, I would say the main attributes that stuck out about the printed mail pattern was that it was (1.) very dark and (2.) Glossy, especially compared to the mail on the Zod and Faora suits, which was matte.

I wouldn't worry too much about the fabric appearing 'purple' with the dark treatment, as the real suits tends to ride the indigo line in certain lights anyway:

HOLY SMOKES!!! That is looking fantastic. :thumbsup

I vote you get a sample to Lunaman, pronto, so he can verify the colors in person and make any suggestions for changes if needed (assuming he'd be up for it). ;)

Thanks bro . Indeed ....... as i got lots of info from his thread .:thumbsup

Wow this is looking very good. As for colouring, Lunaman saw it in person so y he prob can help you out with that.

Thanks , its really difficult to confirm the correct texture color as with different lighting unless can see the suit in person . :D

Thanks bro . ;)

Love it. Great work guys.

Thanks , your armor looks good too.... keep it up and keep us update .

Thanks for more info bro , feel relief now after seeing your post . As i tried many shot of pics with my camera , and phone camera , the color of the fabric and texture changed due to different lighting effect , sometimes it looks dark , some looks blue and some even reflect purple , maybe thats the effect also with the real movie suit as i studied in all kinds of different pics . Ive also discussed with my friend and the printer , they cant print the texture in metallic color and im worry the dark grey will make the suit even looks too dark , so i decided to print with more deep BLUE color as u suggested and try to pick the dark blue that wont near to indigo since the fabric blue already content purplish , so i will ask them to print the blue that maybe content greenish or near to grey .

Lets see how it will turn out , try to keep the suit color looks darker blue when we look from far and even under the sun light . ;)

Thanks for all pics and info and i will keep u update soon .

Looks amazing man! Once you've got it to you liking are you considering selling the fabric on its own? I'm sure many of us would love to get our hands on this.

I agree, I just need the fabric and silicone in black. It's an awesome project!

Re: Some Recent work on MAN OF STEEL Movie accurate suit .

Yesterday, I took a swatch of fabric into FIDM (where one of the hero MOS suits is on display) and compared it to the cape fabric and it is almost identical. The color is indistinguishable from the real deal.

Here's a little video I made from the exhibit.
FIDM Motion Picture Costume Exhibit - 2014 - YouTube

That said, there are some non-trivial differences. For the screen used cape, the wrong side of the fabric is identical to the right side. On my fabric, the inside is a tad darker, and a different texture. The pile on the screen used fabric is SLIGHTLY thicker than on mine. Main downside is my stuff only comes in 60" wide bolts, so I'll have a few seams in my cape. I spoke to one of the security guards, in an attempt to get a photo, or even a feel of the real cape. he refused. BUT he felt my swatch for a bit, and told me that the screen used cape is lighter and more flexible than the swatch I have. Which is wild, because mine is VERY light and flexible.

But the color is dead on, and the texture is VERY close. I'm absolutely thrilled with the fabric I found.

Reason I bring this up here is to offer a swatch up to the OP if he wants some for comparison. I LITERALLY held my swatch next to the cape, under a bunch of different lighting arrangements, and it was indistinguishable.

For those of you who want your own fabric, go to ANY JoAnn's and look for the microsuede. You want not the lipstick red stuff, but the burgandy-ish red stuff.
