Smallville ship key box(and soon key!)

Just finished most of this tonight ready for when I machine the key out of aluminium this week. Its a small display box designed to hold the ship key with a small kryptonian inscription. I've finished the design for the key and will machine it this week

The box is 150mm x 150mm x 36mm(closed) and made of pine!

I'd go with something dark, but not black.

Depends on if you want it to look old, or just neat.

Part of me says get some silver rub n buff for the lettering, but that's gonna be hard to cover up the wood grain with.

I bought some Jacobean oak. Quite dark but will look nice.

I managed to cut a kryptonite ship key today, I was pleased with the result

Right. Managed to get it stained and looking how I wanted after 2 coats. It has a nice rustic look to it now. I just need to seal it and it can go on my shelf

Well today I decided the kryptonite key needed its own stand since the aluminium one is going in the box. Ignore the white edges and dust, the flash makes edges glow for some reason.

I managed to get hold of some nice carbide bits and here is a quick test of aluminium engraving:

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, its much nicer in real life. Just waiting on more aluminium now

After waiting for ages, I finally ordered the aluminium and with any luck I will have the ship key made tonight! I will get more pics of the box, I left it in the shed to get dusty and boy is it dusty looking!
