I worked on this for a few hours about a year ago, thanks to some inspiration from Cmdr.Kerner who is doing some amazing work in the Paper Props section. We collaborated a bit, with his touch of genius being the identification of the fonts used in the card, and also providing a Daily Planet logo.
I picked this up again just yesterday, as I was thinking it would make a good addition to my red/blue Blur costume for Dragon*Con.
First, here's a couple screen caps. The main one was digitally straightened in photoshop so I would have something to "trace" off.
And here's a quick shot of the back side:
I ended up almost completely re-drawing the Planet logo. The only part that remains from Cmdr.K's work is the outer circle, and the latitude lines. I redrew the continents, gave the blue a spherical gradient blur, and also redid the yellow banner. The words "Daily Planet" are also K's contribution, so clearly I could not have done this without his help, and I am eternally greatful!
I cannot say with absolute certainty that I got the dimensions right, but they sure as heck fit perfectly within that lamination card. I also retained some of the artifacts that were left behind (perhaps accidentally) by the prop makers, most notably the thin outline on the border of the ID, which was no doubt meant as a cutting guide.
Huge thanks to Cmdr.K (whose initials are oddly enough "CK") for finding the fonts for this project, pointing me in the right direction, AND providing the inspiration for getting this done!
