Small Soldiers project

Funnily enough Small Soldiers was the first time I can think of a 3D printer in any media before it. The whole Laser scan of what I assume was a light reactive resin was quite cool and seeing the printers in action these days they weren't far off the mark for certain types since the Chip and Archer masters having all that filler jaggys I've recently seen one do that though it's a extruder type nothing as futuristic as Globotec's stuff.

small update on my chip hazard, I've nearly finish the bust and will move after to the rest of the body.

any feedback or critic is welcome ;)

Funny enought now that I work with 3D printing technologie I can see that they really made it more attractive for the movie !

A 3D printer will never print like that ^^.

The figure were sculpt by hand at the time so I guess they had to fake the 3D printing process and had fake supports.

but still a really cool scene !!!

Ah well we can always dream of tech like that of Globotech being real. Without the dangerous one sided thinking of the Commandos of course. You know that is a interesting thought say the X1000 was state-of-the-art today and was plugged into a PC with Windows 10 as it learns within the boundaries of it's core program and is only limited to what is given to it could it make a PC that thinks like you?

Ah silly thought but it's a interesting idea.

Amazing work, still i prefer the more rough look of the originals, 3d tends to look too nice and polished.
Are you thinking of imitating the imperfections of the hand made ones?

Cheers

Thank you :)
No I want more something that looks more like a proper toy made out of plastic but will still make it as close as possible to the original

UPDATES !!!
I recently had acces to lot of pictures of original props and was abble to create scans from them !!! This is gonna help me greatly replicate all of them. Here is a picture of the scans with the texture on.

Here are some renders of my chip hazard 3D sculpt !
My sculpt on the left compare to the scan of the original prop on the right

this is still a work in progress but I couldn't resist putting him in his classic pose.

Hi!
Just saw that I commented on this 4 years ago now. Have to excuse myself for not responding back. Totally forgot about it and I'm sorry for leaving such a douchy remark and then didn't get back to you on it. To pick up where I left off 4 years ago when you showed the grenade I was thinking whether the squares should be one more row along the circumference(makes sense?). The squares looked a bit stretched to me. In that photo of the prop, you could see a little more than three full squares when looking from the side. But I can ofc have been wrong. Just wanted to explain myself before coming back to comment.

The work you've done is wonderful. Looks really good! I'm really curious how you aquired the original props for this.
I'm all for the symmetrical idea. Working on a bit of those ideas myself for different models.
But I'm curious what approach do you take to make it symmetrical. Are you choosing one arm and flipping it over. the same with the face?
The reason I'm asking is cause I'm executing a workflow to make a true symmetrical model by blending both sides to 50% to each other and not choosing one side over the other. for the head however. I'd prefer if that would be asymmetrical, but then again, I totally get why you want it symmetrical.
Your work is really good. Very nice to see all what you've accomplished.
But I just have to ask by editing the following 2 pictures.
32253520_1567790126653372_3806960042242998272_o.jpg 35475254_1603384376427280_8871417029068849152_o.jpg
Fhe elbow doesn't seem wide enough and it looks to be too sharp at the edges compared to the prop. Also the shoulder is sculpted with a more aggressive edge.
For the head, I'd like to see the details brought back. The side of the hair is curved outward a bit in the prop and the edge in the forehead is also more curved.
But I mean, I would never have guessed if I hadn't seen the scanned prop side by side. So this is me nitpicking.

Looking forward to updates. Keep up the good work!!

It's been more than a year from your last update... Looking forward to see your latest. By the way, how did you get access to the 3D files from the actual props? Thanks.
