"Skinned alive" by Predator?

In Predator and AVP 2 you hear that victims have been "skinned alive". Now I wonder why do they say that? I mean none of the guys were actually alive when getting skinned. So what's the deal? Is it just a bit of a dumb expression or something?

It's just an expression in most cases...but there are examples of things being skinned when they are alive and dead. Not to take pot shots, but some of the animal cruelty videos on PETA from China show this.

It probably refers to the person was still alive when the the skinning started...but they would soon go into shock soon after

i think its just an expression i mean "(gasp) they've been skinned while they were dead!" lacks a ring to it.

AVP theirs a point buddy was stabbed then skeined.But in P2 I think the guy in the penthouse(The last one) was skinned alive.While in P1 remember billy finding the skinned chopper crew they as far as I know were skinned alive.
